🏆 Our Discoverability data dives into the number and location of placements for games, both physical and digital, on online stores, including those accessed directly via consoles. This award is for the strongest global presence on PS5 stores. Our nominee list is full of massive titles and franchise heavyweights. Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 remake demonstrated innovation on the original. Electronic Arts (EA) stepped out from the FIFA title partnership to create EA Sports FC 24 and we had another new addition in the enduring basketball game series NBA 2K24 from 2K . There are 2 titles which had console exclusivity to PS5 which would have players seeing a high level of retail support. The first of those was the 16th instalment of the long running Final Fantasy franchise by Square Enix which provided an engaging story coupled with excellent graphics and gameplay. The other title was Spider-Man 2 which brought together Peter Parker and Miles Morales to face off against their biggest nemesis Venom. This award is for the strongest global presence across all web stores and finishes up our commercial #GamesIndustryawards coverage. Retailer support for a title can be huge for any game campaign and we saw the likes of Assassin’s Creed Mirage by Ubisoft see massive support going into a stacked autumn release schedule. Sporting giant Electronic Arts (EA) made sure EA Sports FC 24 had huge levels of retailer support. Another sporting title, NBA 2K24, this time from 2K also saw a high level of retailer support. . Hogwarts Legacy by Avalanche Studios Group and Starfield by Bethesda Game Studios finish up our shortlist of nominations. 🐭 🏰 Disney’s “Epic” Games Investment 🕹 Last week, The Walt Disney Company announced it had bought a $1.5B stake in Epic Games, and that the two companies will develop a Disney universe within Fortnite. CEO Bob Iger says it’s Disney’s “biggest entry ever into the world of games.” Considering the $1.5B investment, he is technically correct – however, the Disney game business has existed for over 30 years. It’s a significant enough stake to consider Epic married to Disney, and it’s unlikely that a single Disney Fortnite game will be the last we see of this partnership. It’s also worth considering Epic’s role in challenging Apple and Google’s platform duopoly now that the fight is silently supported by Sony and Disney, both with their own mobile ambitions. It is exciting to see the games industry continuing to evolve, and we can only begin to imagine the variety of products and content that would come out of this partnership. I think Sony Interactive Entertainment should create its own store for PC games so that its exclusives have their way of reaching a wider audience and are not just limited to being in the console-based audience, especially after the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. Between the fight, brands try to create a monopoly space and make players' experiences exclusive to their products, they are skewing the audience reach and in turn revenue too. P.S. I just wanted #spiderman2 to be available on PC too despite being Sony Interactive Entertainment exclusive, the same way #starfield is even after being Xbox Game Studios Publishing exclusive. #gaming #gamingindustry #publishers #gamers
