This Montreal spots is remarkable for something other than its urban beauty: the gates of McGill University —the 30th best in the world according to QS World University Rankings —stand across the street from the office of Quebec’s premier, François Legault, a man who will leave behind a legacy of laws aimed at repressing the use and presence of English in #quebec and, especially, in #montreal . I often wonder what goes through Legault’s mind when he looks out his window. Does he dream of McGill’s reputation and prestige rising even higher? Or does he envision its importance shrinking? McGill may be an English institution but it is by far Quebec’s biggest educational success story, attracting students from all over the world. McGill alumni, faculty, and affiliates include 12 Nobel laureates and 147 Rhodes Scholars. Paul St-Pierre Plamondon , current leader of the Parti Québécois , is a graduate. It is a shining global beacon for Montreal and evidence that anglophones are not a thorn but a founding pillar of our city—an engine of economic and cultural prosperity. Has anyone heard Legault express his feelings privately about McGill’s place in the future of Quebec? . . #prosperitymindset #educationispower #globalcity #globalcitizens #metropolis Valérie Plante Jimmy Zoubris SDC Montréal centre-ville Golden Montréal (SDT du Mille carré doré/ Golden Square Mile Tourism Dev. During our International Study Course trip in Switzerland, Jacques Bøgh, CFO & COO of Beekee, led our students on a walk through Geneva. This excursion was invaluable for the students, offering them a firsthand look at Geneva’s history and culture, as well as its significance in various industries. Among the many interesting facts conveyed were: 1. Geneva’s historical evolution: Jacques taught the students about Geneva's origins, covering its history tracing back to Julius Caesar's era where it was established as part of the Roman Empire to the relationships between the Protestants and Catholics throughout its history. 2. Political landscape: Switzerland has a unique political structure in many ways. From its neutrality to its direct democracy - allowing citizens to directly vote on key issues - the system fosters citizen engagement in governance. 3. Leaders in education: The Swiss education system, particularly its unique system of two separate educational paths provided students with insights into workforce preparation and academic development. Alongside a traditional pathway to high school and university, there is an a hybrid education model in which students split their time between work experience and learning skills in the classroom that will help them in their jobs. The students would like to personally offer their sincere gratitude to Jacques for taking the time to prepare topics for discussion and show the students around the city. Jacques went above and beyond to ensure the students had an amazing experience learning about Geneva’s history and culture.

Here's a new paper on #passion in the Journal of Business Venturing! I wrote it with two great friends and colleagues: Anne Domurath and Simon Taggar. Oddly, we are all reported to be working at LUT University in Finland...but that only applies to me. Anne and Simon are at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada (as am I for a few more months). If you are interested: We studied the influence of inter- and intra-individual team dynamics on entrepreneurial passion change, and we looked at the relevance of passion change to important outcomes. We drew on person-fit theory and tested our hypotheses with data from a fabulous European accelerator program. This involved 343 team members nested in 79 newly formed teams. There's too many results to report here (a big complex study!) but as an example, we see that entrepreneurial intent is predicted by both (a) end-state levels of individual passion and (b) passion growth trajectories for inventing and founding (but not developing). We also see that team passion trajectories predict team performance. In a nutshell - if you study levels of passion at a point in time, you miss the powerful impacts of change that are captured when you analyze passion growth trajectories. #entrepreneurialpassion #passionchange #passiongrowth #entrepreneurshipresearch #entrepreneurialteams #newventures

European Integration Summer School (EISS), Deadline: 1 April 2024 Although it has recently been challenged by a series of crises, such as the ongoing pandemic, the European Union (EU), which presumably is the most prominent institutional foundation of regional integration in Europe, still remains of paramount importance in several policy areas at the global stage. The EU clearly is not a superpower, but it certainly ranks as one of the most important actors on the global stage. The EU not only affects the lives of more than 500 million inhabitants living within its territory, but it also has a significant impact on millions of people living outside of its borders. How can we study the European Union as a prime organization of Europe’s contemporary political order? From 2024, the summer school will be offered as a Blended Intensive Program (free of charge) in collaboration with the FORTHEM European University Alliance. https://lnkd.in/dPNB_Qxt

Today was Day 2 of the Leeds Beckett University Business School Conference; and for the final session of the day we heard from Natalie Allen and Jo Griffiths all about Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. What is it ❓ A Government-funded programme helping businesses develop and gain a competitive advantage with the expertise of UK universities. How does it work ❓ Each KTP creates a unique partnership between a business and a university to deliver positive impact and drive innovation. Every project is tailor-made for your business. Who funds it ❓ The programme, funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through Innovate UK KTN has been running for over 45 years. During that time, it has enabled more than 14,000 businesses to drive innovation for positive impact. What else does it offer ❓ The KTP programme is complemented by the Management KTP Programme (mKTP), focused on helping businesses build resilience, adaptability and growth by changing culture or expanding management capability. It helps : ✅Drive competitive advantage and boost profitability ✅Generate new knowledge and foster a culture of innovation ✅Create new products and access to new markets ✅Embed expertise across the business Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eZxrDa6X or watch the video below ⬇ https://lnkd.in/esCN7ERm
