Together with Greater Western Water, South East Water, and Yarra Valley Water, we’ve been tracking Greater Melbourne’s water storage levels, usage and future needs through the Annual Water Outlook. Although water restrictions are not expected for Greater Melbourne over the next 12 months, permanent water saving rules continue to apply, and we all need to make every drop count. Did you know? 💧 Melburnians used more water on average this year, with daily usage rising to 163 litres per person, up from 161 litres last year. 🥵 Storage levels can drop quickly if we experience dry spells. That’s why, it’s up to all of us to make every drop count. #MakeEveryDropCount #AnnualWaterOutlook #MelbourneWater Learn more: https://bit.ly/49CnzHN
Commercial use of water seems to be inadequately monitored in some instances eg many large mining projects which can use extraordinary quantities from precious aquifers, and large commercial water bottling companies which are soaking up huge quantities of "public" water around the world often to the detriment of local communities.
Any insight into why it went up? Or where? Or who?

1moMinor increases in general usage combined are bad enough in a year where reservoir levels decreased, add into that our fixed resource for potable storage, ever increasing population and typically uncertain rainfall and we could be back to unstable supply rapidly. We need to address potable water usage in situations where high quality recycled water is an acceptable alternative to decrease the load on our current potable resources.
