I've been saying for a while, Savimbo is not a company, it's a movement. And the movement is making itself clear as a movement for Rights-of-Nature. We were formed by 4 Indigenous medicine doctors, and 250 Colombian smallfarmers who had been conserving an incredibly rare ecosystem for free for 20 years. They asked Todreamalife, an international network of geniuses, to solve the inequity they experienced in conservation funding. Our single purpose has been to get them paid for their work. Since our formation, I have seen a diametric split, between the people who REALLY supported us, and the people who used association with our name for greenwashing. Our true supporters are all across the planet, in every gender, race, ethnicity, and social class. We call them Friends. The one thing they have in common is they actually LOVE Nature. They put skin in the game, small donations, time, connections, and solutions into the pot. They promoted everything we said, left us positive reviews, bought test purchases of biodiversity credits off our website, and subscribed to our smallfarmers. These were not big actions, but they were strikingly consistent. Like our smallfarmers, THEY GAVE WHAT THEY HAD. There is a core group of young people who have based our movement from the start. These are not the children who will inherit a damaged planet, and they are not the people who damaged it. They are the people with the strength, energy, ingenuity, and heart to actually fix it. And they have really showed up to build our solution, and learn everything they could about the right skills to really change the game. If you read this post, and you resonate with our mission. Today during the #TNOCFestival2024, we will launch the "Manifesto on the Governance of Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture" developed in the context of the GenerACTOR cooperation project (funded by the European Union) https://lnkd.in/ehwBpP3B The promoters of this Manifesto include the coordinator Anci Lazio, the Association of Municipalities of Lazio, Risorse per Roma (in-house company of Roma Capitale), the Alcaldía Distrital de Barranquilla (Colombia) and SiembraMás, an organization that deals with recovery programs environmental in both urban and rural areas; Replay Network aps, a non-profit organization specialised in training and in particular in promoting the professional path of the #Gardeniser. Everyone is involved to strengthen the community approach to urban and peri-urban gardens, improving resilience and enhancing common goods. The Manifesto represents a commitment to promote equitable, sustainable and participatory governance of urban and peri-urban agriculture in Latin America and around the world. Its implementation requires the collaboration of local governments, non-governmental organizations, universities, urban and peri-urban agriculture operators and citizens. Recognising that knowledge is power, Bóthar invests in training programs that enhance the skills of communities. These programmes are designed to be relevant and empower people; enabling them to learn about sustainable agriculture, legal rights, and environmental stewardship. This knowledge not only uplifts individuals but also raises confidence and agency within the community. Bóthar helps create income-generating opportunities that are respectful of cultural traditions.These initiatives have shown that economic development does not have to come at the cost of cultural erosion. Through advocacy efforts, Bóthar raises awareness about the rights and challenges faced by indigenous peoples. By showcasing success stories and amplifying indigenous voices, the organisation seeks to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about these communities. By honouring traditional knowledge and fostering collaborative partnerships, Bóthar is helping to empower these communities. Established as CUESA by Sibella Kraus in 1994, the nonprofit started with a goal of “educating urban dwellers about the importance of sustainable agriculture”. CUESA grew roots with the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market as the legendary Ferry Building went through its renovation to become a beacon of California’s agricultural bounty and colorful cuisines. On top of the weekly markets, Foodwise has been running invaluable market based educational programs and trainings for children and teens. Not only is Foodwise led by a team of women, they foster an environment for a long list of women entrepreneurs and farmers at the Ferry Building and markets. It was wonderful to meet The Hunger Project team in #Zambia and learn about their work across nine African countries, implementing the Epicenter Strategy. This approach empowers communities to achieve sustainable self-reliance by shifting power to small-scale producers and promoting community-led development. During our discussions, we explored potential collaboration in #regenerative #agriculture and Australian farming practices. The Epicenter Strategy guides communities through a five to eight-year journey toward self-reliance. Their core philosophy focuses on three essential areas: •⁠ ⁠Start with Women: Empowering women as key change agents. •⁠ ⁠Mobilize Everyone: Building people’s capacities, leadership, and confidence. •⁠ ⁠Engage Local Government: Forging effective partnerships with local government.
