Hiring a Support Team in 🇲🇽 Mexico vs. the 🇵🇭 Philippines At Plane, we're fortunate to observe many trends in international hiring. Today, I'd like to guide you through the process of hiring a support team in two popular countries. 💵 Salaries Let's compare the salaries first. We're using our own proprietary data from US-based companies hiring people remotely. The median annual salary in 🇲🇽 Mexico is $26,983, while the median in the 🇵🇭 Philippines is $27,310. The top 10% of support representatives can earn as much as $57,914 in 🇲🇽 Mexico and $58,616 in the 🇵🇭 Philippines. Please keep in mind that this data does not represent the markets for all people in these countries, only those who have access to remote job opportunities in the 🇺🇸 US. You can find links to more detailed reports in the first comments. 🎤 Access to Talent Both countries are top destinations for US companies looking to hire their support team abroad. There are many options for building a team, from freelancers and recruitment agencies to staffing agencies and full BPO solutions. As many teams in the US hire people directly, it’s easy to find candidates on your own without any help. You can just post an offer on We Work Remotely, and I guarantee you'll see a lot of quality candidates. 📈 Exchange Rates Unlike some other countries in Latin America, the markups on exchange rates are fairly reasonable in Mexico and also in the Philippines. The typical range starts at 1% to 3%, which is not higher than typical rates for international payments. However, even 1% means a lot for a typical salary. Thankfully, with Plane, we can alleviate some of this pain and help lower the cost of exchange rates. 🕒 Time Zones Here’s the biggest difference between these two countries. The Philippines are at least 12 hours ahead of the US, no matter where your customers are located. We see that customers who mostly serve the US market have a strong preference for Mexico, while more global teams aiming for 24/7 coverage choose the Philippines.
