Join us this Thursday at 3:30 pm in the Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium for The "Who is the Architect?" Symposium. The symposium addresses the nature and the prospects of professional practice from multiple points of view: 1. How do architects forge new identities, specializations, and ways of collaboration as corporate firms increasingly dominate the design and construction of large and significant projects? 2. How are professional knowledge and the ways in which we share, curate, and expand professional knowledge transformed by digital technologies that enable not only the representation of buildings but also the modeling and assessment of their functions as well as the storage and analysis of relevant data? 3. What is the place of human and social values in the production of designs and the assessment of their impact and who brings those values into the process of decision making? 4. How far do those who exercise the profession of architecture own or co-produce the larger vision that generates significant projects? 5. How has the relationship between the profession and the discipline of architecture evolved in our world? The symposium brings together four scholars: Phil Bernstein, Deputy Dean and Professor of Architecture at Yale University. Aaron Cayer, Assistant Professor at CalPoly-Pomona. Elizabeth Christoforetti, Assistant Professor in the Practice of Architecture at Harvard University. George Johnston, Professor Emeritus at Georgia Tech and the scholar in whose honor the symposium is organized.

Be inspired – listen to the recent #Lecture by Prof. Philippe Block, Co-Director #MASETHCSD programme, offered by the Block Research Group, ETH Zurich at the Institute of Technology in Architecture, ETH Zurich. His lecture entitled “Rethinking construction: Learning from the past to design a better future” was part of the MIT Department of Architecture lecture series in Structural Design. In this lecture, Prof. Philippe Block showed how translating the (lost) knowledge of the #GothicMasterBuilders into today’s praxis results in truly #Sustainable, #Circular and #Economical #Structures, addressing #ClimateChange by significantly reducing #EmbodiedEmissions, utilising fewer single-use resources and minimising #ConstructionWaste. Brava to the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture's first recipients of the Fellowship to Advance Equity in Architecture: Nathalie Frankowski and Cruz Garcia / WAI Architecture Think Tank. Their work references "racism, settler-colonialism, disability studies, ecological justice, and other topics germane to the pedagogies of the built, destroyed, and imagined environments that comprise architecture and related fields."
