CAP Network Ireland were happy to join bioeconomy experts and stakeholders from government, industry, academia and civil society at the INFORMBIO, Climate-KIC and Circle Economy Foundation workshop in the Bernal Institute, University of Limerick. Stakeholders, including CAP Network Ireland, were treated to expert presentations and then invited to participate in the workshops and provide constructive feedback on the bioeconomy in Ireland. The information gathered  will contribute to the Bioeconomy Foresight Analysis providing a roadmap towards a sustainable bioeconomy for Ireland. InformBio combines data driven research, analysis, and modelling with input from expert thematic groups, ensuring robust and informed outcomes for industry, policy makers and other relevant groups. InformBio positions Ireland as a front-runner among EU member states, by developing a prototype national bioeconomy monitoring system, enabling stakeholders to track the development and progress of the national bioeconomy against key bioeconomy indicators. £100 Million Awarded to #BioTech by UK Government The Science and Tech Secretary unveils a raft of new announcements to drive innovation in science. This will see £100 million awarded to biotech firms across the UK to help pioneer new technologies that will help prepare for pandemics, innovate farming, and protect against floods. This comes alongside a rallying cry to entrepreneurs, businesses, researchers and government to put science and technology at the very top of the UK’s priorities – or risk failing to secure long term growth. The cash will be given to six new ‘Engineering Biology Mission Hubs’ and 22 ‘Mission Award’ projects across the country, that will look to build on Engineering Biology’s enormous potential to address global challenges, drive economic growth, and increase national resilience. The lack of communication between AgTech stakeholders in Canada is stifling innovation, with reinventing the wheel just one of the issues. I think about Protein Industries Canada and the collaborative value it brings. What if AB or Canada were to take the same approach to Ag Tech? Thought for the day:❓Who controls the progression and development of UK agri-tech?!❓ Recent weeks (or months...) have witnessed numerous changes in government departments and MPs, notably the conspicuous absence of agri-tech in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) reshuffle. Amidst the merger of the three national Agri-Tech Centres into a single Catapult, an interesting dynamic arises. Innovate UK (part of UK Research and Innovation, an Arm’s-length Body linked to DSIT) oversees the Catapult while the mandate for agri-tech resides with Defra. Additionally, various other ministers within DSIT have the potential to influence agri-tech indirectly - through domains like digital infrastructure, AI, intellectual property, and the tech economy. Clearly agri-tech intersects the portfolios of all the ministers in the department – harnessing their collective input becomes pivotal as UK agri-tech undergoes evolution and maturation. But what implications will this distinction hold for UK agri-tech? 🤔 Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

To stimulate innovation, it is important—indeed, vital—to ensure interaction between the various stakeholders, including producers, researchers, and outreach agents, so that they can pool their ideas, opinions, and knowledge in order to solve the problems or meet the challenges they face. The European Union's Development Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture (DeSIRA) initiative champions a multi-actor innovation partnership approach. This approach convenes diverse stakeholders to exchange ideas, combine resources, and drive coordinated innovation efforts. Recognizing the importance of skilled facilitators, #DeSIRA-LIFT designed a specific training program.
