Yesterday marked suicide prevention day. In more recent periods, local and national suicide rates have begun to rise, with Nottinghamshire County's suicide rates increasing from 8.7 per 100,000 people (in 2016-18) to 10.3 per 100,000 (in 2019-21). These figures are slowly rising, services around the country are under constant pressure. Services and funding must be allocated accordingly to those most in need or risk.

It's not a nice subject. It's gut-wrenchingly heart-breaking. But taking just 30 seconds out of your day today, could make all the difference. This petition is to introduce a Suicide Prevention Act to seek to minimise suicides. Voting in this petition takes seconds to complete and doesn't result in spam mail. Why do we need this petition to be debated? You may think there is a wealth of data on this area collected by companies, by the authorities, in RIDDOR reporting ... we'll, you'd be wrong. You may also think most of these tragedies are due to mental illness and so unavoidable ... again, you'd be wrong. Life happens doesn't it? - redundancy, bereavement, homelessness, divorce, illness, etc. Many of us have experienced these. We're still here, while others sadly couldn't bear the loneliness, the grief, or the shame, and are no longer with us. Money buys happiness? Wrong - and sadly we see this all too often in the news and social media don't we ... another idol we learn, with a fake smile, who checked out too soon. This petition is a step in the right direction, putting things in place to bring the numbers down. 9,215 votes and counting ... so close to the minimum 10,000 votes, needed by the 📅 January 2024 deadline, for the government 'to respond to this petition'. 100,000 votes would mean this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament. The UK has c.40 million adults. 100,000 votes is just 0.25% of this. 👨👩👦 None of us want to be one of the estimated 800,000 people per year, personally affected by the losses we see, each year (6,000 people die by suicide every year). This is an opportunity to quietly show (online) your support for others, even if you have not been personally affected yourself by this type of death, in your family. 🙏🏼 Please sign this petition today. https://lnkd.in/eC9sj3T5 The Jordan Legacy CIC Steve Phillip Paul Vittles #Wellbeing #MentalHealth #SuicidePrevention

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. According to Statistics Canada, approximately 12 people die by suicide each day, totalling around 4,500 deaths per year. Suicide rates are approximately 3 times higher among men compared to women, and it's the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults (15-34 years). These numbers are more than just statistics; they represent individuals, families, and communities affected by the profound loss of a loved one. But behind these numbers lies hope – hope that by spreading awareness, breaking the silence, and fostering supportive environments, we can prevent suicides and save lives. Tomorrow is World Suicide Prevention Day (10th September) which, every year, aims to reduce stigma and raise awareness about suicide and its prevention. “In the UK, men are three times as likely to die by suicide than women. In the Republic of Ireland, the rate is four times higher among men than women.” - Rethink Starting honest conversation about suicide and showing that recovery is possible is vital – we need everyone to feel less alone and more able to ask for support. MHFAider’s have access to a Suicide Prevention Toolkit which includes valuable resources on suicide awareness, prevention, and a suicide safety plan. Let’s talk about suicide. Not the usual happy tone we talk about at the Green Task Force, but it’s something that’s important. Did you know that the North East of England you’re almost twice as likely to die from suicide compared to someone from London (12.8% v 7%*) Studies have shown that 80% of callers to suicide prevention hotlines felt their call stopped them from taking immediate action towards self-harm.*2 Just talking can reduce suicide. So, pick up the phone or get on your bike and just go and see someone you’ve not spoken to for a while, or seems a little off. Don’t wait until it’s too late. #Check5 #SuicidePrevention #ItsGoodToTalk *Source https://lnkd.in/eCKAQgvz https://lnkd.in/eYSETebt *2 https://lnkd.in/eJ847hav

Think about this..... Do you know that today is World Suicide Prevention Day? Do you know that the suicide rate has increased significantly? Today, suicide affects men and women, adults and young people, and most alarmingly, it already affects children. What are we doing as a society to prevent and avoid this? We cannot continue closing our eyes and pretend that nothing is happening. As a society we have a responsibility to do what is necessary to avoid and prevent this condition. What can you contribute to avoid it?
