If history has proven how female scientists have brought precious knowledge to marine science, women remain under-represented today for decision-making roles in conservation. A huge step forward for Gender Equality in Australia this week as the Workplace Gender Equality Agency published the median gender pay gap data for the first time. The publishing of this data tells us that there are still significant gender pay gaps in Australia and hopefully it represents a catalyst for everyone to take further action and have more conversations around closing the gap. As I look at the data I recognise that we in Arcadis have made some great progress, especially in the last 2 years, but we have more work to do to close the gap. Through initiatives such as our STEAM outreach activities and global gender diversity targets, we are actively working towards positive change as #OneArcadis. It is crucial that we continue to empower and support women in their efforts to promote environmental education and lifelong learning.   On this International Women's Day, we honor and recognize the contributions of women in environmental education and lifelong learning. We celebrate their passion, dedication, and tireless efforts to educate others about the importance of preserving our natural resources and creating a more sustainable world.   We also acknowledge the unique perspectives and voices that women bring to the table when it comes to addressing environmental challenges. Their creativity, empathy, and innovative thinking are invaluable assets in finding solutions to complex environmental issues.   As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us commit to amplifying the voices of women in environmental education and lifelong learning, supporting their work, and promoting gender equality in all aspects of our efforts to build a more sustainable future for all. Together, we can create a world where women are empowered to make a positive impact on the environment and inspire others to do the same.

In 2021, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted a resolution proclaiming an International Day for Women in Maritime to be observed on May 18 every year. The day is designed to raise the profile of women in maritime, strengthen the IMO's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support work to address the current gender imbalance in maritime. March 8th is International Women’s day ❤️ It’s a day to raise awareness about gender equality, advocate for women's rights, and celebrate the progress that has been made in empowering women. With that being said, how about a post from from the only male team member at KLH (for now) who shares his thought and experience in working with a group of female engineers in sustainability. 💕What do you enjoy about working at KLH Sustainability? KLH is a diverse and inclusive company which allows anyone with the right energy, passion and knowledge to join us in the push to create a sustainable world.   💕What do you admire about the women you work with at KLH? They have the energy, intelligence, skills and passion to change the world and they work hard every day to achieve it.   💕How does the attitude, direction and ambition compare to your previous work environments? The attitude and ambition are different. Men are usually more competitive as individuals while the women that I work with are more competitive as a whole. They think less of individual trophies and more of company goals.    💕How does it feel to be the only male member in the team? It has helped me understand some things in the world from a different perspective which I value a lot. I would also like to add that being the “different” one in the company makes me get more attention which feels good haha!

We’ll celebrate when we get there On the 49th official UN International Women’s Day, we would like to remind the world that although this is a day to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, it is not a day to celebrate. Yet. At Stena Line, we believe that all our people should have the same rights and opportunities to thrive. We also know that our company – like all organisations – has everything to gain from having a diverse workforce in which everyone is treated with equal respect and dignity. Greater diversity brings more perspectives, experiences, skills, and business to the table and it helps us better understand our customers and their needs. But gender equality is not a competition that anyone can win by just being slightly better than others. It’s a fundamental human right and should be respected and upheld by everyone in society. And we’re not there yet. Not as the world at large and not as a company in this industry. We operate in a historically male-dominated field. Even today, just over two percent of the global seafarer workforce is represented by women (source: International Maritime Organization) and we struggle to find women to fill some of our positions. But that’s a struggle we will pursue until the day we’ve broken the biases and are living in a world in which gender is not even an issue in our industry. We will keep collaborating with organisations to open new doors and we will keep launching initiatives and internal training to smash the glass ceilings. And do you know what? Impact in action! One of the first large-scale renewable energy projects in The Bahamas began operations this week, aiming to cut over 5,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year and close to 150,000 tons over its 25-year lifespan. The Fairfield solar plant, developed by Lucayas Solar Power, will contribute significantly to The Bahamas' climate goals. The project also promotes gender equality, with a minimum goal of 10% female participation for non-traditional roles in the construction and installation of solar panels.
