2023 offshore survey season has ended and it's time to start preping for next year. 2024 marks a critical year for Dragon Geosciences as it will be our decade long service to the offshore wind developments in Taiwan. In the past decade, Taiwan has made significant strides in the development of offshore wind power along the west coast of the Taiwan Strait. This initiative not only aligns with the global mission of achieving net-zero emissions but also capitalizes on Taiwan's unique natural resources to ensure a stable and independent power supply. Achievements of Offshore Wind Power in Taiwan to Date: ⚡ Accumulated wind power generation from January to August 2023 has exceeded 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours (equivalent to supplying electricity to 1.08 million Taiwanese households each month). ⚡ Currently, Taiwan has four operational offshore wind farms officially connected to the grid. ⚡ With the strengthening of the northeasterly monsoon in autumn, Taiwan's offshore wind power can produce over 800,000 kilowatt-hours in a day. ⚡ The Taiwanese government plans to achieve 5.5 GW of installed offshore wind energy capacity by 2025 and a goal of adding 1.5 GW annually thereafter. As Dragon Geosciences Group, we are proud to have supported the government's efforts in this significant development. Our involvement in these campaigns underscores our dedication to fostering sustainable energy solutions. The road ahead is filled with challenges, but our team at Dragon Geosciences is equipped with the knowledge, experience, and technology to overcome them. Today Lithuania has announced the tender for the second offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea. The National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC) will select a developer for a 700 MW wind farm. Another solid step towards strengthening our energy independence. Around 2030 two offshore wind parks will generate around 6 TWh of green electricity - half of Lithuania's current electricity consumption. We have set the tender conditions for the second offshore wind park allowing the bidders to propose developing the park either with or without state support, i.e. requesting the lowest annual electricity generation incentive or offering the highest development fee. In case of the state support, it would be available for 15 years. The successful bidder would contribute €5 million to environmental protection measures. Once the offshore wind farm is built, the developer would make an annual contribution of €1 per 1 MWh of electricity generated to the nearest municipalities. Preliminarily, this could amount to around €3 million per year for the local communities. I am grateful to the project team of the Ministry of Energy, the Lithuanian Energy Agency and EPSO-G, who designed the regulatory framework, proactively presented the project, and organized the performance of important studies - from wind speed measurements to environmental impact assessment. We have also had a number of market consultations, contacts with potential developers, and the range of questions we discussed during the preparatory phase indicates the interest in the project and the Baltic offshore wind market. So, I am optimistic. I hope that the tender will attract new investments to Lithuania, and we will congratulate the winner later this year. #offshorewind #energyindependence

#FlashbackFriday. Full house at the Offshore Wind Conference, edition 2024. The scene set by Tánaiste Micheál Martin on Day 1. Day 2, the anticipated Draft South Coast DMAP announced by Minister Eamon Ryan. It has been a busy few month already in 2024 for the offshore wind sector in Ireland, with recent publications of the ‘Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy’ (Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment) and ‘Future Framework for Offshore Renewable Energy’ (Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications), the policy setting out the pathway Ireland will take to deliver 20GW of offshore wind by 2040 and at least 37GW in total by 2050. Keeping the momentum going now, with the 6 Phase 1 projects submitting their planning applications in the coming weeks and a second auction ORESS2.1 (Tonn Nua), set to take place later in the year. Delighted to see many familiar faces and make new connections. Some of Belgium’s finest also present during the conference, amongst others of course, Phase 1 Oriel Wind Farm developer Parkwind, but also DEME Group and Jan De Nul Group, Belgian Tier 1 contractors who will play a crucial role in delivering Ireland’s offshore ambitions. Quoting Eric Finé from Smulders, in a recent article on Flanders’s 20 years’ experience in the field of offshore wind energy: "95 percent of offshore wind projects, outside China are realized with #Flemish expertise.", no doubt our companies will get further involved and commit to the projects in Ireland as well. Great to also see other experts from #Belgium digging deeper into the Irish energy and offshore market, with Stuart Dawson, during the ‘Offshore Grids and European Integration’ session, taking the stage on behalf of Belgian’s electricity system operator and offshore grid connection specialists WindGrid (Elia Group). Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) is looking forward to joining forces again with the Belgian Offshore Cluster vzw, Blauwe Cluster (Blue Cluster) vzw and Agoria Energy Technology Club to showcase #Flanders and Belgium’s offshore supply chain at the Wind Energy Trade Show in November. Details and more uplifting vibes and news to follow. The pieces are indeed all now coming together, Noel Cunniffe. Great to see the efforts being put in by Wind Energy Ireland, Irish Government and Industry alike, long may it continue!

Senior Principal - Global Head of Offshore Wind & Head of Strategy Iberia at AFRY Management Consulting
Similarly to the Iberian peninsula, Sweden is a powerhouse in the onshore wind industry but with an almost nonexistent offshore wind market. As of today, Sweden has only 192 MW of offshore wind capacity but things will change... dramatically!. Back on February 22, the Government approved their MSP (Marine Spatial Planning) to generate 23-31 TWh/yr of Offshore wind - but the same month, it mandated the Swedish Energy Agency (Swedish Energy Agency - SEA) to amend the MSP identifying an additional 90-120TWh/yr of offshore wind generation. On March 23 the SEA identified a number of areas currently with other uses that might also be suitable for OFF wind - These areas are currently under public hearing and, by the end of the year, the Havs- och vattenmyndigheten (Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management - SwAM) will be able to submit the final MSP to the Gov. In the proposed amendment, more than 20,500 km2 have been identified, with a huge push in the Baltic Sea area. If fully developed, 20-30 GW of new offshore wind capacity could come online in the coming decade. At AFRY Management Consulting we can help developers in their market entry strategy as well as identify the best areas in which to develop these wind parks. Contact our local leaders Kathrine Stene Bakke or Clémence Carnerero for more information. #AFRY #makingfuture #engineeredbyafry #renewables #offshore #energytransition #sweden
