Breaking down the myth around #BlueMonday, often labeled the 'most depressing day of the year'. While there's little evidence to support this claim, the reality is that mental health challenges persist throughout the year. According to Mind, 1 in 4 people in the UK experience mental health problems annually. Let's redirect the spotlight from a single day to an ongoing commitment. Mental health matters every day. That's why, at Disability Expo 24, we've curated a Priority Action Area dedicated to Mind & Well-being – a space featuring support services, charities, the latest research, and engaging discussions. It has always amused me that there was a day that is suposedly more depressing than others. Having been diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety since 2007, no particular day is worst regardless of day, month/time. Although for me how a day starts impacts that entire day possibly even the next. Depression is quite odd as it can effect anybody regardless of what they have, or what problems they have. I hid mine for years concerned about career impact or what people would think. I have always been my biggest critic and the thought of giving people something else to critique me over was not a great thought, driving the condition further. It’s great that this is such a focus as it still is one of the biggest hidden killers especially (agreed not exclusively) amongst men. Working with the Disability Expo has shown me I’m not alone (sadly).
