I'm still recovering from my last endo operation. The pain is endless, the journey is deeply problematic, and the research still has a long way to go. It's heartbreaking that on top of having this condition, you also have to be an advocate for yourself every step of the way. Fighting through being belittled, feeling unheard, and disregarded in the health system. It's exhausting. I can't express how much having a supportive place to work in makes a difference. It's why I choose to freelance so I can be adaptive, but this also comes with its own huge burdens of not having the structures in place to support you when you need to be in hospital, or crawled up in a ball. I really want to push for more support in this area. I am gearing up to start a new collaborative creative project exploring this, so would love to connect/chat more with anyone that's interested. If you don't know much about endometriosis, please do look into it and consider how your work practices can be more adaptive and empathetic to those experiencing chronic pain. Endometriosis UK has some fantastic resources as well as the The Endometriosis Foundation run by the incredible Carla Cressy. If you think you might be experiencing it, I am always here to chat, share my own journey or point you in the right direction! #endometriosis #endoawareness #endometriosisactionmonth #creativehealth #artsforhealth #chronicpain #accessibility #inclusion #wellbeing #creativesector

People tend to gravitate towards therapists. It’s definitely a profession that attracts attention, comments and commentary. Everyone has something to say when it comes to therapy and therapists! Good, bad, conversations about whether there are more issues than previous, the cause, it’s just how it goes. And of course the throngs of people who love to come over for advice, for referrals. And lots of people who follow therapists on social media, almost as if just will be helped by association. Plus of course to learn and be educated about tips and inspiration, which I think is great and one of my main goals for being on social media! Do you know the best way to associate with a therapist? To call one your own! If needed, actually being in therapy is by far the most effective way to get help, improve and grow. If not needed, good for you! And plz keep following and let’s keep learning from each other and inspiring each other. What do you think are the 3 most “lightning rod” professions? The ones that everyone just loves to weigh in on and has strong views #therapy #inspiration #growth

Therapists, let's talk about waitlists: when are they helpful, and when do they do more harm than good? 🤔 Waitlists can be a double-edged sword. They make sense in specific scenarios, like when you're offering a therapy program with a set number of sessions, or when you are certain of a discharge date, like when a current client is relocating to a state where you're not licensed. In these cases, you can predict an opening in your schedule. However, the end of a client's therapy journey is often unpredictable. Here's a rule of thumb: avoid giving a timeframe for waitlists unless you're certain of an opening. Offering a vague 'soon' can create false hope, potentially stopping someone from seeking the help they need now. Remember, therapy is about providing timely support. And by the time that someone makes a call to seek support, they have usually been sitting on that decision for months, if not years, so if they are finally making that call, chances are, they aren't in a great place and need help sooner, rather than later. In cases where waitlists might seem like an option, consider also offering them viable referrals. This way, individuals get immediate options, not just a spot on a list. It's about being realistic and compassionate in your practice. Just so you know – waitlists are best used sparingly. They should support your practice, not constrain the therapeutic options for those seeking help. Always prioritize immediate care and alternatives, ensuring everyone gets the support they deserve when they need it. Need help finding or managing your referral lists in an effective and efficient way? Consult List can help. #TherapyPractice #ClientCare #MentalHealthAwareness

Therapists: you know those 10-15 minute consultations? We think they could be the key to a more efficient, effective, and fulfilling therapy practice. Many therapists view initial consultations as lost billable hours. In reality, a well-executed consultation: ⌛Saves time. ✌ Reduces stress. 💔 Prevents the discomfort of realizing post-initial-session that there’s a client-therapist mismatch. Consultations should be full of empathy and clarity- after all, you’re engaging with someone vulnerable, seeking help. Start with an overview like, "Thank you so much for reaching out. This call is an opportunity for us to connect and see if I'd be a good fit for you and your needs. First, let's start off with some logistics like your availability for sessions, the setting you prefer, and finances." Remember, you're laying the groundwork for successful therapy. You’re aligning therapeutic goals and logistics, leading to meaningful and effective sessions. And you’re building relationships that work for both you and your clients. Embrace these consultations. They're not just about filling your calendar; they're about enriching your practice and creating fulfilling therapeutic journeys. #TherapyConsultations #MentalHealth #TherapistInsights

Founder at Kindred; Consulting with Purpose | Trauma-Informed Mental Health Consulting | Trauma-Informed Supervision | Accredited Social Worker
I was researching various EAP providers for a number of clients last year and one of the first questions I asked was ‘what support do you have in place for your clinicians?’ Every single provider I spoke with said to me 1 - no one ever asked them that question and 2 - they weren’t sure and would get back to me 😂 How can we expect therapists/psychologists/social workers or anyone working in professions where they’re priority is to care for others do their job well…when they themselves are not cared for, resourced and appropriately remunerated by the organisations they work for? #workplacewellbeing #traumainformedcare #traumainformedorganisations #mentalhealth #socialwork #kindredconsulting

If you're seeking therapy, know this: The company your therapist works for can make a world of difference in your care. Once upon a time, therapists might have varied in style, approach, and experience, but you could still expect a certain standard of care across the board. That's not really the case anymore. Now, depending on the company, your therapist might be seeing 30+ people a week while earning just $30/hour. They could have little control over who they see, when they see them, and might not be getting the much-needed time off to rest and reflect. Imagine being deep into a therapy journey and suddenly losing all contact with your therapist because the company decides to lay them off without a word of warning. So here's my unfiltered advice: It's high time we recognize that the companies employing therapists play a GIGANTIC role in the level of care you receive. Those considering therapy, please do your homework. Investigate companies that truly value, respect, and compensate their therapists fairly. Why? Because a well-treated therapist translates into better care for YOU. #mentalhealth #therapy #consciousconsumer
