"I serve on the board of Texas Gun Sense. I joined the board after the tragedy in Uvalde - as a mother of two young kids in elementary school, it hit too close to home for me, and TGS is a non-partisan organization doing so much great work to help make Texas safer. Please consider becoming a sponsor of our Fall Fundraiser, A Safer Texas. This event funds advocacy and programs with the power to save lives."- Jaime Thompson, Board of Directors Support our work with your sponsorship today: https://lnkd.in/gBeBWbUm

Last week, Anick Silencieux from Support Black Charities shared a workshop with our team on Black Philanthropy in Canada. One central theme throughout Anick’s presentation was the importance of uplifting and elevating your community. This is a common motivation for why people give, and it left us with some reflections that we wanted to share with you: 👉 What does elevating my community mean to me? 👉 How can I incorporate elevating my community into my charitable giving? 👉 What steps can I take to get started?

So many business owners could get behind a project such as this. These developments going up everywhere in Truro, but I have not heard anything about affordable housing in the mix. There are so many of our families, friends and neighbours are homeless with not enough beds. Folks don't need a great big space...only big enough for a bed, small kitchen area and a bathroom with a sink, toilet and upright shower. This would get people out of the cold and off the street for the winter. Have the Town donate some land for a project, donations of materials to build from local businesses, volunteers to come together with their skills. tools and the willingness to help...you never know, you might be helping a friend who is hitting rock bottom. Think about this...it can be done if everyone brings whatever the can to help. Don't have another cold winter watching folks sleeping on benches or behind buildings...the people of Truro are better than that.
