Last week we released our latest report, Next steps: What is the experience of young adult carers in education? 🎓 It uncovers the experiences and choices of young adult carers who are exploring university or an apprenticeship and includes brand-new insight from our widening participation questions introduced in 2023. Our findings show that young adult carers face significant barriers when accessing specialist support to transition into higher education and apprenticeships, with 65% of those interested in an apprenticeship not receiving support tailored to their situation. A reluctance to share their status as a young adult carer can prevent students from accessing the support they need, and female carers in particular lack the encouragement and support to make aspirational choices and see apprenticeships as a viable option. The report, backed by the Carers Trust provides key insights to help employers and apprenticeship providers improve the experience of young adult carers 💙 Read the full report 👉 https://lnkd.in/e7xt4yeq #WideningParticipation #CareerGuidance #Apprenticeships

📢 Attention Employers: Important Update Regarding Co-Payment for Apprenticeships! Effective April 1st, there's a significant change in the co-payment age bracket for apprenticeships! Employers who do not pay the levy will NOT pay a co-investment if: ✅ The apprentice is aged between 16 and 21 years old at the start of their apprenticeship training, OR ✅ The apprentice is aged between 22 and 24 years old and meets either of the following criteria: - Has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan provided by the local authority, OR - Has been in the care of their local authority. (AND you have fewer than 50 employees) This change is to help promote accessibility of apprenticeship programs for both employers and apprentices, reducing barriers for SMEs and help create more opportunities. 👉 Employers, take note of these updated guidelines, and continue to invest in the growth and development of your workforce! Contact us on apprenticeships@yeovil.ac.uk for more information on how you can use apprenticeship training to benefit your organisation. #Apprenticeships #WorkforceDevelopment #EmployerGuidance #SkillsTraining #EmpoweringTalent 🌟

This recent update by Strada Education Foundation (https://lnkd.in/gwfWe9ZB) provides insight into the value of work based learning. As recently shared by the U.S. Department of Education, more than 51,000 adult learners are participating in work-based learning programs funded by WIOA, known as Integrated Education Training (IET). Strada's update focused on interns and apprenticeships, which also applies to the #CenterOfExcellenceInApprenticeships which is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor which the Coalition on Adult Basic Education participates in a leading advisory role. If there is one connection to be made here, it is that adult education is already doing this important work and working to bring it to scale to the millions of learners being served by adult education providers across the nation! #AdultEducation #Workforce #TalentPipeline #ROI #Apprenticeships #IET #BehindEveryEmployer

✨ FUNDING, GRANTS AND NI apprenticeship info ✨ FUNDING The government offers a co-investment model. Under this model, the government covers 95% - 100% of the apprenticeship training and assessment costs. Meaning, you either pay nothing or only have to contribute 5%! GRANTS Alongside the government funding available to cover apprenticeship training costs, there is also a government grant of £1000 for employers who take on an apprentice aged between 16 and 18. NATIONAL INSURANCE Additionally, businesses do not need to make national insurance contributions for apprentices under the age of 25. This puts ALL companies in an absolutely fantastic position to bring on fresh talent or upskill existing staff members. It really is as straightforward as that! If you're interested in bringing a new apprentice on or want to upskill staff members - drop me a message, it could be entirely funded! #fundingsolutions #apprenticeships #careers #tech

👨🏭Young people need more help if we are to turn their growing awareness of apprenticeships into genuine opportunity, argue Jo Saxont and Oli de Botton in FE Week. 📌Accepting that apprenticeships continue to rise in appeal, both advocate for a targeted drive in three key areas where some issues remain: ➡️💡Ensuring that young people are inspired by apprenticeships from an early age. ➡️⚖️Ensuring parity in the way that students explore and connect to apprenticeship opportunities and more established academic routes. ➡️🌟Helping young people to have meaningful and ongoing experiences with employers. 🗣"As we marvel at the superb achievements of many apprentices for National Apprenticeship Week, we know there is more to do to make the system inspiring, accessible and as easy as possible to navigate." #apprenticeships #employers #ucas https://lnkd.in/eZyqd6st

This is one of those 'looks great, starts to unravel a bit' type of initiatives which apprenticeship policy seems to attract. On the surface, great news, funding band increases for 13 key apprenticeships. However, dig a little deeper.... The additional funding only kicks in at 15 starts per provider. And these on standards with a pretty low start volume last year. So what's the thinking here? Surely the aim is to widen participation through incentivising providers to do more? Take Lab Tech for example. 340 national starts last year. Pretty much means anyone with a cohort of 15 is doing well already. If you want more providers to build their numbers, surely you fund each start. Incentives only work if you can achieve them. Anyone agree, or have I missed something? #apprenticeships https://lnkd.in/eGa5GbVT

🔎 Are you up to date with the latest funding update for apprenticeships for 2023/24? There's lots to unpack, but here's our key takeaway 👇: 💰 The latest changes to apprenticeship funding rules available now allow businesses to enrol apprentices up to the age of 21 without incurring any training costs. That’s right – a 0% contribution towards funding the training of any apprentice under the age of 21. With the age cap increase, employers now have a broader selection of young talent ready to fit the specific needs of their business. Sounds like a win-win to us! 👏 You can read the full update here: https://lnkd.in/gTCwPte #EMATraining #apprenticeships

The DfE have published v1 of the Apprenticeship funding rules for 2024 to 2025. Here's a summary of the key changes: • Reducing the administrative requirements associated with onboarding an apprentice and monitoring their progress. • Reducing the administrative requirements for learning support. • Reviewing the minimum requirement for active learning. • Introducing a new de-minimis in relation to subcontracting. • Widening the flexibilities in English and Maths requirements for apprentices who have learning difficulties and disabilities. • Updating the transfer policy. They have given levy-paying providers greater flexibility to use transfers and deliver training to receiving employers. Change is inevitable, and it’s crucial for your organization to have a plan to adapt to these key changes. 📈 If you need support navigating these updates and ensuring your apprenticeship programs align with the new rules, don’t hesitate to reach out. #Apprenticeships #FundingRules #Education #Training #DfE #WorkforceDevelopment

5. Myth: Apprenticeships are not helping disadvantaged young people Wrong. Apprenticeships support thousands of young people without GCSE passes at school to gain the literacy and numeracy skills they need to progress to higher paid work. And to support less advantaged young apprentices, we have raised the apprentice minimum wage by 9.7%. This is on top of last year’s raise worth 11.9%. Most apprentice employers pay more than the minimum – in 2021, median apprentice pay was £9.98/hour. From August 2023, the government are increasing the bursary that they pay to apprentices aged 16-24 who are care leavers, from £1,000 to £3,000. In addition the employer and provider of an young apprentice who has been in care are each paid an additional £1,000. There is additional funding available for disabled apprentices who need additional support to get it. #apprenticeships #NAW2024 #apprenticeship #people #hr #potentialrealised #leadership
