This statement by Yasmine Sherif, Executive Director of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), emphasizes the urgent need for global leaders to prioritize and support the education and well-being of children in Haiti. The use of phrases like “must not turn their backs” conveys a sense of moral obligation and urgency, calling for immediate action from the international community. The inclusion of UNICEF and Education Cannot Wait as key partners underscores the collective effort required to address this issue. This aligns with the mission of both organizations, which focus on providing educational opportunities in emergency and crisis situations. The reference to a link for further information suggests an ongoing or developing initiative that seeks broader public awareness and engagement. By encouraging the audience to learn more, it invites a call to action for those who want to support or contribute to the cause. In relation to **Orphan Kids in Bukavu (ORKID)**, the work being done in Haiti mirrors some of the challenges faced by organizations like ORKID, which also work to support vulnerable children—especially orphans and those with disabilities. This global effort highlights the broader importance of ensuring children in marginalized and crisis-affected regions have access to education, health care, and support. ORKID could potentially explore partnerships or collaborative opportunities with organizations like UNICEF and ECW, as their missions align in terms of providing care and education to vulnerable populations. The statement serves as a reminder that localized efforts, such as those of ORKID in the Democratic Republic of Congo, are part of a larger, global movement to protect and nurture children through education and humanitarian aid. https://lnkd.in/d2tw-fkX

With 71 million children ages 0 to 5 having never known a life outside conflict - and children who were born into the Syria conflict now entering adolescence - innovative approaches to delivering all forms of humanitarian assistance are urgently needed. Through our Ahlan Simsim initiative - delivered in partnership with Sesame Workshop – we have reached more than 3 million children and caregivers across the Middle East with programs and services. Our programs reach children and caregivers where they are to provide them with the support they need. And we project that more than a million children will continue to be reached each year, with Ahlan Simsim programs now embedded witin national government services. The IRC's new report, "Transforming Tomorrow: Innovative Solutions for Children in Crisis," shares our learnings on the approaches that work for early childhood development programs and extends beyond the sector to offer hope for some of the world's biggest challenges today. #AhlanSimsim https://lnkd.in/eK3ba3si

Being #TraumaInformed can yield incredible benefits when applied throughout a programme in any sector. Building on its experiences with fragile and conflict-affected communities around the globe, Chemonics UK adapted and applied its own learning to support potentially trauma-affected individuals in Northwest #Syria, as part of its implementation of the UK Aid-funded Syria Education Programme (SEP), also known as Manahel. A key component of this approach involved establishing community protection committees to change community attitudes towards #safeguarding risks like corporal punishment and early marriage. These committees work to support children outside of school and engage with school leadership to hold them accountable for safeguarding issues. This initiative complements SEP’s focus on healing and promoting individual agency by transforming passive programme participants into dynamic constituents of development programming. Find out more in this fascinating briefing paper on how the programme implemented a trauma-informed approach: https://ow.ly/JFoW50QfS0a You can also hear more from the SEP team at our Trauma-Informed Approaches in Development Summit tomorrow! School security should be a priority to ensure students can learn in a safe and conducive environment. In commemoration of the International Day of Education, we call on the government to pay attention to school security. The goal should be to provide adequate resources and well-trained personnel for the safety and security of students, educators, and school staff. This will reduce the number of out-of-school children and make it easier for them to access education. Let's work together to ensure all students have equal access to quality education and learn for lasting peace. I am delighted to be part of this conversation. Although the current state of education in Nigeria is quite disheartening, particularly how much insecurity has taken us back in the fight for education, leaving the nation with a rapidly increasing number of out-of-school children and girls. Nonetheless, as we commemorate The International Day of Education, permit me to share with you how you can be a part of this advocacy as the statistics call for urgent action. What can you do? 1. Amplify the fight for education in Nigeria by reposting and sharing to raise awareness. 2. Volunteer with aligned organizations to address this crucial issue. 3. Educate yourself on the matter so your voice creates impact. 4. Donate, no amount is too small - every contribution matters. 5. Make an impact in your community by supporting a child's education. Your actions can make a lasting difference. Let's work together for a brighter, more peaceful future through education. #InternationalDayofEducation #EducationForPeace #2024goals #educationforall
