I'm very pleased to announce that our "Resilient and Sustainable Buildings" book was published by the American Society of Civil Engineers. This book reflects four major National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded projects that focused on different aspects of building resiliency and sustainability from single buildings to large communities. The book was sponsored by the SPEED committee of the Infrastructure Resilience Division of ASCE. I want to extend sincere appreciation for the efforts of our lead editor John van de Lindt and my other co-editors, Mehrdad Sasani and Gordon Warn, to make this book a reality. I also would like to thank my chapter co-authors, Madeleine Flint and Adrian Rodriguez-marek, for their intellectual contributions and constructive feedback. I also want to acknowledge our project co-PIs, graduate students, and undergraduate researchers who shaped the project. If you are interested in learning about how we can make our built environment more resilient and sustainable, please read our book and let us know your feedback!

We are driven to bring #ResearchAndInnovation closer to people. This involves communicating with a wider audience through various tools, and websites are a key channel for conveying the research conducted in projects, explaining the purpose behind it, and illustrating its impact on our lives. Here's a snapshot of our latest website work, designed by Carla Barceló Sàbat 💜 nZEBRA is developing an intensive course to empower professionals and Master's students in architecture and civil & energy engineering to design #climateneutral buildings 🏢🌍 🟣 We are Three o'clock: we bring #ResearchandInnovation closer to people. #ResearchMatters Carla Barceló Sàbat Olga Glumac, Ph.D. Jennifer Krueckeberg, PhD Evdokia Bairampa Eva Boo Esti Sanvicente Chloe C.

Civiltech’s Jennifer Hyman, P.E., and Phillip Hutchinson, PLA, LEED AP, lead a breakout session at the 110th Annual Transportation and Highway Engineering (THE) Conference, held February 27 and 28 in Champaign, IL. Jen and Phil together with CDOT’s David Miller and IDOT’s Kimberly Murphy presented, “Overview of the North DuSable Lake Shore Drive Phase I Study.” The presentation included the history and importance of the corridor, major project components, and the transformational opportunities that the project creates. It also provided a summary of community and stakeholder outreach efforts, as well as an update on project costs, construction, funding, and schedule. Kimberly opened the presentation with an introduction and overview. Jen then covered the history of the corridor and highlighted current safety and design deficiencies and challenges. She also presented overall project goals and shared information on the shoreline modeling. Phil walked through existing and proposed renderings illustrating existing challenges and proposed solutions. Phil included both aerial and pedestrian eye-level perspectives for discussion of the user experience. Dave then summarized the critical and involved public engagement efforts and spoke on project funding, costs, and the anticipated project schedule.
