What an all star line up, with a room full of all star women (and a few men)! 🤩Inspiring to start the day with so many incredibly smart and thoughtful minds. 💫 The discussion caused me to pause more than I ever have about investing and financially investing in women startups. 💰 Elizabeth, the panel’s moderator and amazing woman, offered pointed context about there being so many philanthropic southern women who are very generous in their giving, and asked how do you influence and rethink that type of giving into investing, especially in women??…💡💡 The struggle and statistics are real in investing in women startups, and in the workplace. Anna, one of the panelists and another amazing woman, made a very matter of fact, observational comment reflecting exactly that, “Women get promoted on performance. Men get promoted on potential”. 🎭 We need to change and influence that. I believe we can, together. What are your thoughts on how we influence the mindset of investing in women? * Women-founded startups accounted for 2% or less of venture capital (VC) funding invested in Europe and the United States in 2023, Pitchbook data finds. * But by VC deal numbers, women are making gains over the longer term. We’ll keep it real. As we reflect on March, it’s been a month of both wins and losses: 💥Received Advance Assurance for SEIS and are now ready to receive investment via ASA ahead of our round, which will open later in the year. 💥Submitted 2 funding bids and drafted 2 more, which we’re on track to submit next month.  💥Partnered with Royal Court Theatre on the West End transfer of critically acclaimed theatre show For Black Boys offering hundreds of £10 tix to community members.  💥Secured free offerings for the theatre shows Shifters and Sister Act to our community members 💥Grew our waitlist by 200, we’re now at over 1700+ creative talent  💥Attended the TNB XPO as an official exhibitor, an annual convention showcasing Black excellence within the UK screen industries 💥Nominated for exciting awards (more on this to come…) 🤫 But, we also: 🌪 Experienced product delays which has a knock on effect on our launch timeline  🌪Missed the deadline for a funding opportunity that we wanted to put ourselves forward for 🌪Had to reschedule a shoot due to unforeseen circumstances, which was costly 🌪It’s been a great month for fundraising, but this push has distracted us from the real work of business development So, in the spirit of transparency, we’ll be sharing our monthly W’s and L’s along the way. Kevin will celebrate 16 years with Univar Solutions on February 26 and has shared his proudest moments and tips for success. Q. What excites you about your job?   A. I enjoy leading and mentoring others. Assisting others in their Development & Growth Journey is rewarding and fulfilling. Q. What does being a member of the BAALN mean to you?      A. Being a part of the BAALN provides the opportunity to serve, to educate, and the ability to impact my local community. Most recently we coordinated volunteer events for MLK Day. And Black History Month is around the corner--kicking off with an event Feb. 1 @ 11 am EST, plus weekly themes, including Black Music History, History of Law, Black Chemist History and STEM. Q. Tell us more about the MLK Days of Service events.      A. The MLK Day of Service provides anyone the opportunity to serve and give back to their local community through an initiative that they are most passionate about. This year, we were able to organize volunteer events at seven sites and heard about many others volunteering in other ways. We hope to continue to grow these events at even more sites next year. Q. What achievement are you most proud of at Univar Solutions?      A. I am most proud of being selected as the Inside Sales Manager for Ingredients & Specialties Performance Materials, and organizing a successful “Socktober Drive” for the homeless, and MLK Day of Service across North America. Q. How do you like to start your day? A. I like to start my day with a cup of coffee, breakfast, and creating a plan for the day’s tasks. Q. Any favorite hobbies?    A. I enjoy reading, watching college football, and cooking. Q. What does it take to be successful in your role?   A. It is important to be flexible, the ability to adapt, analytical, strategic, and the desire to succeed. Q. Any hidden talents?   A. I enjoy singing, song writing, playing instruments and working out.
