Children of parents deployed in the military face unique challenges that can significantly impact their well-being and development. From coping with parental absence to adjusting to frequent relocations, these children need dedicated assistance to thrive amidst the challenges of military life. Some struggles include: • Emotional stress and anxiety stemming from parental separation • Difficulty adjusting to frequent relocations and changes in schools and communities • Behavioral issues and academic struggles due to the disruption in routine and support systems Support and resources available/worth seeking: • Military Family Life Counselors offering counseling services to help children cope with emotional challenges • Military Family Support Centers providing programs and activities to strengthen family bonds and foster community connections such as @militaryfamilyorg (a percentage of all Couples’ Coffee Co sales are donated to this organization)  • Schools offering support systems such as counselors and support groups to assist military-connected children in adjusting to new environments We know this can be a difficult time to navigate, but know we’re here for you. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that veterans are at 72% higher risk of suicide than those who have not served. To address this issue, HMP Global is partnering with Stop Soldier Suicide — a national nonprofit working to reduce the military suicide rate by 40% by 2030 — for the 2024 Day of Giving. Jonathan Castillo US Army Warrior Rescue (501c3 Nonprofit) Heard something yesterday in regards to PTS/PTSD that’s been on my mind and kept me up all night: Cast take for my active duty folks/vets: You don’t have to see “combat” to have/had stressors in your life or don’t have/had to see “combat” to “talk to somebody.” Sometimes life sucks, it’s stressful at times, go talk to somebody if you need to vent. The military has resources for everyone, they do, leaders look for them and teach/help our folks. If your folks get “turned back” don’t sit back and do nothing, if you do nothing, you are the problem. Stop, listen to understand, not to answer back, understand the situation and take action. Take your ID Card out of your computer, get up and do something. They came to your door for a reason. If you are in uniform discrediting our military and available resources, and haven’t done anything to address the problem/issue, you are the problem too, I said it. If you think leading soldiers stops at 1700, we need to talk. Children's sense of belonging and agency is supported when they see their lives reflected in storybooks. Being part of a military, Veteran, and First Responder families can be tough if their parents have a moral injury. It impacts affect the whole family, and children are often silent sufferers. Research-based storybooks using family narratives give voice to their experiences and support children's understandings. Are you a military veteran living in or around Lewiston, Idaho? You are not alone, and there are so many resources available for help. Here is a list of some resources available to veterans in or around the Lewiston region. Please let me know if I can expand this list. There's a program called Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) that can help with rent assistance, utility assistance, rapid rehousing of homeless veterans, gas vouchers, and up to $1,200 in automotive repairs. They will also help with legal assistance, such as evictions or debt collection, child support, and a few other things. That's just some of the services they offer. SSVF grantees vary depending on location. The Blue Mountain Action Council out of Walla Walla is an amazing group that serves a few regionally nearby communities. PTSD is a hard disease that plagues our Veterans and First Responders daily. Sometimes they Don't realize it affects them as bad as it does. More importantly it affects our families as well. At the core, Veterans and First Responders at times don't understand how to process all the emotions they are feeling. A lot of times they try using avoidance as a way to cope with their trauma. The Warfighters Mission's Computers for Heroes Program was designed to give the Warfighters a chance at life again. We build these custom computers and give them to our Warfighters who are struggling to leave the house due to PTSD. Our hope is that they will be able to attend our Peer Support or Ministry services online with the hope that it will get them to possibly attend in person. As we all know, a lot of things to include Dr. Appointments are now being held remotely online. This will at least afford them a little more freedom.
