Mauritania Longest Iron Ore Train. Riding the World's Longest Iron Ore Train crossing the Sahara Desert of Mauritania is maybe one of the most adventurous thing you could do in your entire life. Trains on the railway are up to 2.5/3 kilometers (1.6 mi) in length, making them among the longest and heaviest in the world. They consist of 3 or 4 diesel-electric EMD locomotives, 200 to 210 cars each carrying up to 84 tons of iron ore, and 2-3 service cars sometimes. The total traffic averages 16.6 million tons per year. The Mauritania Railway is the national railway of Mauritania. Construction of the line began in 1960, with it opening in 1963. It consists of a single, 704-kilometer (437 mi) railway SPEED / 35 km/h circa TIME / 18-22 hours one way OVERALL TIME / 2 days

Oriole Resources PLC (AIM:ORR) executive director Claire Bay discusses promising gold results from the company's Mbe licence in Cameroon with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion. Bay explained that Oriole is advancing the Mbe licence, funded by BCM, which involves a $4 million exploration expenditure for up to a 50% interest in the project, including milestone payments based on resource size. Oriole has employed conventional exploration techniques, resulting in significant gold anomalies within the Mbe licence area. Rock sampling and mapping have identified high-grade quartz veins and lower-grade anomalies, which are crucial for building volume in the deposit. Recent results include infill soil sampling at the MB-01 prospect, revealing discrete vein systems with mineable grades. Imagine if Libya had a proper government in control of these mine sites. The potential outcome could be extraordinary, especially with major companies like Rio Tinto, bhp and other investment firms entering the country. We wouldn't have to rely solely on oil and gas; in fact, they might become the least significant part of our income. And gold is just what we know of so far. There's also a high potential for iron ore in regions like garyan and Jebel Nafusa. The possibilities are endless for Libya's future with a proper government!

🚅The Mauritanian iron ore train is one of the longest and heaviest trains in the world and the most unique and incredible railway journeys one can take. The train is up to 3 km (1.8 miles) in length, travels on a single track of 704 kilometres (437 miles), with 200 – 300 freight carriages, weighing up to a total of 17.000 tons. The sole purpose of the train is to export iron ore from the mining town of Zouerate to the Port of Nouadhibou via Choum in Mauritania, Northwest Africa. But the state agency, Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière, allows locals and tourists to board the train and use it as a mean of transportation between inland of the country and the coastline. One cannot expect any levels of comfort one would find on other passenger trains around the world, though. This train has no ticket, no conductor, no dining cart, or any sort of announcements. It is not bound to any timetable and may leave earlier or later than the usual departure time. This also means the arrival time is not fixed to a certain time and a single trip can take from 11 to 15 hours under the sun, at an average temperature of 40°C. #zorail #railway #maintenance #demiryolu

From a recent trip to the Sultanate of Oman, I brought this photograph with me: In this striking picture of the Wadi Bani Kharus unconformity, we can appreciate the sharp contrast between the Permian Saiq Formation and the underlying Kharus Formation, belonging to the Nafun Group of the Hajar Supergroup. The time gap between these formations is about 300 Ma. This very clear geological contact provides an exceptional window into the region's tectonic evolution. Such outcrops are invaluable for petroleum exploration, as they offer direct insights into subsurface conditions, guiding exploration strategies, and enhancing the understanding of potential reservoirs and traps. The detailed study of these outcrops can significantly de-risk exploration efforts and improve the accuracy of subsurface models in similar geological settings.
