Homelessness affects over 1,400 young people in Ottawa every year. With your support, we’re determined to raise $75,000 to fund YSB’s 2 emergency shelters and 4 housing buildings, providing critical resources to help youth have safe housing and build brighter futures. 👏ALONE & HOMELESS CHALLENGE: From Fundraiser To Frontline - Part 1👏 After the Alone & Homeless in London Fundraiser last month, I set out with one purpose: to put every pound raised directly into the hands of those who need it most. Thanks to the incredible generosity and trust of everyone who contributed to the £1,000 raised - an amazing result. As an individual, not a charity, I’m so grateful for the faith people placed in me to make this happen. Last Friday the 8th, we went out through Maidstone and Chatham, distributing essential supplies that can bring warmth and comfort during these colder months. These simple actions may seem small, but on the streets, they’re anything but... If this experience has taught me anything so far, it’s that change starts when we each take small, consistent steps. Imagine if more people took even a day to do something similar, creating ripples of awareness and empathy through their networks. The combined effect would be massive! Not just in providing direct help, but in sparking a real mindset shift in society. From what I’ve seen firsthand, there’s a growing commitment to progress, from individual efforts to broader initiatives, like hostels and community support. If we each commit to making an impact, we can help shift the public view on homelessness and ultimately, make it a thing of the past here in the UK. To everyone who donated thank you once again for making this possible and to anyone thinking about doing something similar - JUST TAKE ACTION! You don’t need to be a charity to make a difference. Investing in the next generation of charity professionals with Depaul Ireland In today’s rapidly evolving world, and with the challenges the charity sector is facing, it’s vital that we invest in the next generation of charity professionals. This year, Benefact Trust has awarded £67,000 to Depaul Ireland - a leading cross-border charity supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness - to develop their innovative graduate programme, which will attract, train and develop young people to work in the homeless sector. Through this, Depaul Ireland are working to future proof the sector by bringing in new talent to help contribute fresh, modern, and sustainable ideas. After many weeks of engaging with various charities and organisations, it’s become crystal clear that our communities need us now more than ever. The challenges of homelessness, hunger, addiction, and social isolation are not distant issues—they are happening right here in our neighborhoods. Charity organisations like One Voice, The Salvation Army, Phoenix Hub, and Arise Restoration Projects are doing incredible work to support those in need. But they can’t do it alone. It’s our shared responsibility to step up and support these initiatives, whether through volunteering, donating, or simply raising awareness. Together, we can ensure no one in our community is left behind. At the same time, we need to focus on the next generation—the future of our communities. Today, it’s far too easy for young people to fall into the wrong crowd or lose sight of their potential. We must provide them with opportunities that keep them engaged, motivated, and inspired. Sports programs, charity events, and mentorship opportunities can play a huge role in shaping the minds and hearts of our youth. These activities not only keep them active but also teach critical life skills like teamwork, discipline, and compassion.
