Reflecting on 2024, Building Towards 2025… As 2024 wraps up, I’m proud of the impact I’ve made serving many professional communities (a few listed below) and as Interim CFO at Garden Studios (backed by Höegh Capital Partners Limited & Arts Alliance Ventures) shaping a forward-thinking, scaling business in the creative industry. My sincere thanks to Thomas Hoegh, the Board and everyone associated to Garden Studios for their trust, passion and collaboration - it has been an incredible journey of transformation and setting up for success, during a challenging period for the industry. This chapter ends in February 2025, and I’m excited for what’s next. Over the next 20 years, my goal is clear: to drive meaningful change in the built environment - creating spaces that improve lives, fosters communities, and leaves lasting impressions for the next generations. My Journey to becoming a Portfolio CFO Five years ago, my life took an unexpected turn. I contracted Lyme disease, and let’s just say it wasn’t the kind of life-altering experience I had in mind! Between navigating a maze of debilitating symptoms, getting a diagnosis and finding a physician to treat me, I realised something had to give – and it wasn’t going to be my health. After 20+ years working in the corporate world, working with senior execs and wading through a sea of bureaucracy and office politics, I decided it was time to hit pause.  After nine months of focusing on my health, I took a leap into the unknown: Interim FD/CFO roles with SMEs. (I was too frightened to commit to a full-time role whilst continuing with my recovery). It was like stepping into a different world. No red tape , no endless meetings about meetings – just the opportunity to roll up my sleeves and make a real impact. I loved it. 💖 However, the one frustration I had was that I was not using my full experience, all of the time – although I was very busy doing value-add work, I was probably doing what I considered ‘CFO’ work around 20-30% of the time. 💡 Cue the lightbulb moment: become a portfolio CFO 💡 Now, I get to work with ambitious founders and CEOs, focusing on the strategic, commercial finance work I love – no fluff, just value. Plus, I’ve rediscovered my passion for helping businesses thrive (and yes, I’m happy to say I’m feeling much better too 🙌).
