This mod makes the Flamer and Plasma Flamer weapons viable for VATS use.

This mod has been stripped from my no-longer-supported weapon mod so that I can present it as a standalone feature.

Sadly there are a number of issues regarding these two particular weapons and VATS. This mod addresses all of those issues with the exception of one; the no damage bug. Occasionally the weapons in question will stop dealing damage until you stop attacking for roughly 2 seconds, after exiting VATS. This fix cannot address that issue as it appears to either be a hardcoded issue with the way these weapons interact with VATS or it's just beyond my skills to address on the engine level. Either way, this fix takes care of the rest.

The proper way to use these weapons in VATS is as follows:

  • Only ever use a critical on the first attack in any VATS instance to get the most out of it.
  • Secondly, attack multiple times to build the most charge possible. The first attack in VATS builds almost no charge while subsequent attacks will provide a steady stream of the critical meter.

NOTICE: If used in conjunction with Cyan's Perk Mod 2, it will benefit from half of the weapon specific damage effect bonuses on Survival mode, a maximum of +50% damage instead of +100%. There is a holotape provided in that mod to allow you to change back to default damage bonuses if one so desires.

Also, if for any reason you encounter the BrawlBug, you can simply type "set FVFBlockCloak to 1" without quotes into the console which will disable the cloak effect used to apply a perk to targets in a radius around the player. After all fisticuffing has been executed, you may re-enable the cloak effect by typing "set FVFBlockCloak to 0". Keep in mind that the cloak effect itself is only active while wielding a Flamer or Plasma Flamer and having your weapon drawn so it should be extremely unlikely to encounter said bug, but the option is there just in case.

If you follow these guidelines you too will enjoy viable flamer VATS action.
