About this mod

This mod is a patch to change the functionality of the "Canteens of the Commonwealth" mod, including allowing you to hotkey the canteen.

This patch was requested by another user, and I took up the offer for the challenge of it, so please show all of your love for the original mod author if you like this patch.

This patch fundamentally reworks the Canteens of the Commonwealth mod by simplifying and streamlining the basic concept of canteening in the Wasteland.

  • Only a single belt is available to craft using the included canteen workbench from the original author that starts off with a single canteen and can add one or two additional canteens at the armor workbench. To craft the belt you need Armorer 1, and each additional canteen requires another rank of Armorer.
  • Upon equipping the belt, you will be able to refill it at any water source the same as any other bottle, and you will consume either dirty or purified water depending on the source used to fill it. Additionally, the belt will add an item called "Canteen" to the AID category that can be hotkeyed, and when used will drink one charge of the canteen. If you last filled up with dirty water, the description will indicate as such. The option to refill the canteen will not show while swimming.
  • Each canteen holds 6 charges or "sips" and adds 3 weight per canteen to the belt when full. The canteen item itself will display how many sips are remaining in your canteens.
  • The ability to refill normal bottles will be disabled while you have a canteen in your inventory to avoid a conflict issue. If you wish to refill bottles then first unequip your canteen belt and then proceed as normal.
  • Faction related canteen material options will only be available upon gaining entry into the given faction.
  • You do not need to concern yourself with any other features in the original mod as this patch phases them out.
  • If you unequip the canteen belt, it will remove all water from the canteens. This is the design decision I made to prevent an exploit with the weight system where any other 'reasonable' method of adjusting the weight of the belt as you add and remove charges without resorting to using F4SE GetWeight() and SetWeight() functions meant that you could have a full belt with all 18 charges and unequip it to remove all of the additional weight added by the charges and only re-equip it to use the water when you need to, in case you were wondering...
