When we experience trauma, life stressors, or times of crisis it is common to find ourselves struggling with anxiety, depression, or relationship issues. Often, we hold deep beliefs about ourselves or others that do not serve us. These beliefs may hold us back from our best life. I work to facilitate healing in those who are struggling to find peace with themselves and in their relationships. I believe our relationships affect our lives in nearly every aspect. Healthy relationships are born from healthy individuals. Therefore, I enjoy working with both individuals and couples in the quest for optimum mental and emotional health.

My goal, as a therapist, is to help others create their own happiness by empowering strengths and learning to overcome weaknesses. Depression and feeling overwhelmed in work, relationships, and daily activities is a common experience for most of us. People often need help in resolving conflict with others, wish to stop a bad habit, or desire to understand their self-worth.

I approach my work with the belief each of us deserves to be seen and heard. For many of us, the most important thing in life is to feel connected, supported, and secure with those we care about. I have spent the last few years working with clients with histories of trauma incurred through relationships, be they family, romantic, platonic, or professional. The work clients and I do together focuses initially on processing the impact of our relationships, developing coping skills to deal with current behaviors, and moving forward with a healthier, more balanced life.

Life is messy. Therapy is a place to sit with its nuance, connect to yourself, and feel empowered to own your story. As a counselor, I cultivate a safe environment for growth by exploring clients’ worlds with curiosity, sensitivity, and humility. I enjoy working with individuals and couples navigating depression, anxiety, religious or spiritual transition, substance use, eating disorders, grief, trauma, and autism. I practice acceptance of all identities and am an LGBTQIA+ affirming counselor.

Anile believes that her role as a counselor is not to change clients and solve their problem, rather to facilitate change through a process that involves genuine, respectful, trusting, and collaborative relationship with the clients. As your counselor, I hope to convey the importance of incorporating intentionality in all that you do. In our work together, we will focus on the present moment, while allowing for space to navigate any memories, trauma, or parts of yourself that are asking to be brought to the surface. I believe in the power of awareness; without it, it is challenging to take action, especially when life starts feeling like uncharted territory. Counseling can be the catalyst for your personal growth and healing.

My clients are motivated, wellness literate, and soulful. They are searching for something different, potent, exploratory. Many of my clients are looking to understand life, and themselves, on a deeper level, and traditional counseling often still leaves them searching for that extra..."something". That something is depth, immersive experience, and soulful living. I am well suited for clients who want to learn to find play in their lives, explore holistic practices in a modern way, and who wish to find a deeper satisfaction in their lives.

I understand that the thought of going to therapy can generate massive feelings of anxiety, but really, therapy is a hopeful process, one of realizing your strengths and learning more advantageous approaches to the challenges life can bring. I specialize in therapy with adolescents and adults, couples, individuals, families and blended families.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
