Have you heard about the J-IC yet?  The Join-In Circuit on AIDS, Love and Reproductive Health (J-IC) is a portable intervention tool that uses pictures, games, role plays and problem-solving skills, to reflect on risk factors related to HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and gender-related topics. It increases the knowledge of participants and builds a foundation for positive changes in their attitudes. J-IC aims to contribute to the prevention of HIV and gender-based violence and is the main methodology that the GIZ Strengthening Girls’ Rights (SGR) Project is using.    As part of its mandate to scale-up sustainability, and through its partnerships with institutions of higher learning, SGR supported the training of twenty (20) staff at the Lusaka Apex Medical University as Trainer of Trainers in the J-IC methodology. The 12-day training, which ran from the 3rd to the 14th of July 2024, targeted lecturing staff from various University faculties including, Public Health, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Midwifery, Radiation Science as well as Medicine. The training capacitated the participants in the methodology and to integrate it in their curriculums as well as train students as J-IC facilitators.

🌦️ GIZ supports the Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) in providing essential weather and climate information to farmers. From 15th to 19th July, ZMD, in collaboration with GIZ, through the AgriFood Cluster’s CREATE Project, hosted a multistakeholder workshop in Livingstone, with participants from ZMD, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock from across the country. The workshop's main objective was to strengthen and revise the existing Agrometeorological Bulletin and Training Manual produced by ZMD. Enhancing the comprehensiveness of these documents and aligning them with agricultural perspectives will empower agriculture extension officers and lead farmers to make informed decisions using weather and climate information. 🌱 These resources are crucial for providing essential weather and climate information to farmers, enabling them to effectively plan and manage their crops and livestock. Strengthening the Agrometeorological Bulletin and Training Manual is vital for building resilience to extreme weather events, climate change, and variability in Zambia.  #GIZ #AgriFood #CREATE #SustainableAgriculture🌍

🌱 GIZ supports the Ministry of Agriculture in establishing farmer field schools for off-season seed production and multiplication as part of a drought response program in Southern Province. 🚜 In collaboration with GIZ, through the AgriFood Cluster’s CREATE Project, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) is empowering small-scale farmers in Southern Province through interventions focused on off-season crop production, vegetable gardening promotion, and entrepreneurship training. This recent initiative aims to provide legume seed packs for off-season production through irrigation in selected districts of Southern Province, ensuring household food security during this period. 🌾 The first of a series of three-week training sessions began on July 15th, involving 116 farmers (55 from Chirundu and 61 from Kalomo district) in seed production and multiplication. 300 seed growers have been recruited to produce climate-smart crop seeds, including cowpeas and beans, which are expected to be in short supply this year due to the current drought. The farmers receive support from the MOA at district level and are trained by the Seed Control and Certification Institute (SCCI) and the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI). The CREATE project is funding the workshops, seed grower registration, and the procurement of breeder seeds.  #GIZ #AgriFood #CREATE #SustainableAgriculture 🌍🌿

Handover of well-equipped modern workshops at two tevet institutions in Zambia🎊 The Minister of Technology and Science, Hon Felix Mutati yesterday officially handed over modern training 🛠workshops at Lusaka Business and Technical College (LBTC) and Lusaka Vocational and Technical College (LVTC). GIZ through the Thriving through Innovative Vocational Education in the Water and Energy Sectors (THRIVE) Project, with funding from German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), supported the modernization of the two facilities. Mr. Mutati highlighted the importance of competence-based training and the need for skilled workers in 💧water supply and 🚽sanitation operations and 🛠plumbing. The minister emphasized that the modern training facilities will tremendously impact the students’ practical lessons to enhance their competences and skills, and prepare them for the World Skills Africa competition to be hosted in Zambia in 2025. GIZ Zambia Water and Energy Cluster Coordinator, Anke Peine-Ellis underscored the relevance of the practical orientation of competence-based vocational training and work-based learning for the water and energy sectors in Zambia. Modernisation of additional training workshops is underway at the THRIVE partner Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs) Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES), Mansa Trades Training Institute, Mwense Trades Training Institute and St. Mawaggali Trades and Training Institutes in Choma. #SkillsforAll #Vision2030
