We are thrilled to be part of the new student accommodation project at the University of Melbourne's Dookie Campus in Yorta Yorta Country! Collaborating with Modscape and other consultants, supported by the Victorian Government, this project beautifully reflects the campus's agricultural roots while enhancing student life. The ACOR team is proud to contribute and provide our service in civil engineering and building services (fire protection, electrical and hydraulics) to such an impactful development!

Thirty minutes outside Shepparton on Yorta Yorta Country, surrounded by rolling farmland, sits JCB’s recently completed new student accommodation at the University of Melbourne’s Dookie Campus. Working closely with head contractor Modscape, the highly efficient two-storey design was prefabricated offsite and utilised modular construction methods to meet a fast-tracked program, enabling the college to quickly meet increased accommodation needs with an additional 85 bedrooms. The project, a joint investment by the Victorian Government and the University of Melbourne, provides a comfortable and welcoming residential environment for students, staff and visitors of the college. Inspired by the campus’ agricultural roots, the design pays homage to the rural vernacular with its clean, vertical lines expressed throughout the external façade. Each of the ensuite units overlook a communal courtyard, while an expansive communal kitchen and living area creates a social heart, with large windows framing views of the surrounding trees. Supporting the University’s growing regional presence, the new accommodation offers a modern living experience in a rural setting and enhances Dookie's role as a hub for agricultural education and research. What an exciting day on the Greens for a great cause! Last week, Willie Malherbe (ACOR Client Leader), along with Kerrod Murray (RPS), Peter Crunkhorn (RPS) and Steve Carter (Multiplex), had the incredible opportunity to participate in Veteran Housing Australia Charity Golf Day, and what an experience it was! Multiple organisations in the industry joined forces to support Veteran Housing Australia, raising funds to transform lives and provide homes for deserving veterans. A huge thank you to the organisers, sponsors, and all the participants who made the day a success. As one of the Hole Sponsors, ACOR is honoured to play a part in making a difference, one swing at a time!

This year's National Safe Work Month theme, "Safety is Everyone's Business," highlights that workplace safety is a shared responsibility. Each of us plays a vital role in creating a safe and healthy environment. This final week focuses on musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs), which accounted for half of serious workers' compensation claims in 2022-23. MSIs can result from both gradual wear and tear and sudden incidents, particularly in high-risk industries like: 🏥 Health Care (22%) 🏗️ Construction (11%) 🏭 Manufacturing (10%) Key Lessons from National Safe Work Month: ▪ Safety Starts with Everyone: Reporting hazards and following protocols enhance safety. ▪ Mental Health is a Safety Issue: Supporting colleagues fosters a psychologically safe environment. ▪ Ongoing Education is Key: Regular training keeps us informed about evolving safety protocols. ▪ Workplace Safety is a Team Effort: Collaboration and shared knowledge are essential in mitigating risks. Let's continue to prioritise safety beyond October! Together, we can build a workplace where everyone feels secure and valued. #SafetyIsOurBusiness #SafeWorkMonth

This week was full of inspiring evenings after Tuesday and last night at ACOR's launch event for Property Portfolio Services (PPS) in Sydney and Melbourne. In Sydney, our panel, led by Adam Reeman (Property Portfolio Services Leader, ACOR), alongside Liana Paolino (Project Director, ACOR), Marcelo Solar (National Director, Strategic Clients, IA Design) and Paul Dorney (Asset Management Lead, Charter Hall), shared their perspectives on the future of commercial property. The discussions were insightful and crucial in shaping our industry's future, from flexible working arrangements to asset sustainability and digital transformation. Anita Louey (Capital Works PMO State Manager, VIC, WA, and ACT, Mirvac), Simone Rogora (Associate, Hassell) and Blake Wilson (National Business Development Leader, ACOR) also joined Adam in the panel discussion at our Melbourne event, where we explored key themes around: - Work-from-home impacts and Melbourne's slower return to the office - Sustainable practices in the commercial property sector - Asset resilience in a market facing valuation challenges Alex Paton was our MC for both events, leading our insightful panel session conversations, and ACOR Acting Managing Director, Alan Edler, closed out both of our events. With the backdrop of recent calls for a return to the office, the panel explored the potential impacts on commercial property tenancies and what these changes could mean for property owners and managers in the years ahead. It was great to see so many industry professionals come together to discuss the unique opportunities and challenges for commercial property. A big thank you to our clients and partners for their participation and energy. We look forward to continuing these important conversations. #PropertyIndustry #CommercialProperty #AssetManagement #Sustainability #PropertyPortfolioServices #networking

As we dive into the third week of the National Safe Work Month, let's shine a spotlight on the importance of managing risks in the workplace. Effective risk management is essential for identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards before they escalate into problems, whether on a building site or in an office. Why is Risk Management Important? Good risk management helps prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to equipment or buildings. Proactively addressing risks can reduce hazards, enhance safety, and boost workplace productivity. Instead of reacting to issues, we can plan and mitigate potential dangers. Here are some key steps in the risk management process: 🔸 Identifying hazards 🔸 Assessing the likelihood and impact of risks 🔸 Implementing control measures and continuously monitoring 🔸 Regularly checking and updating plans Let's commit to fostering a safer workplace for everyone! Together, we can create an environment where everyone thrives. #SafetyIsOurBusiness #SafeWorkMonth

This week, as part of the National Safe Work Month, we focus on prioritising psychological safety and identifying psychosocial hazards. In today's fast-paced environment, ensuring psychological safety for everyone is more crucial than ever. Psychological safety allows employees to express their thoughts, ask questions, and admit mistakes without fear of retribution and significantly enhances overall well-being and productivity. Employers have a duty of care to protect staff from psychosocial hazards, and these include: 🔸 High Job Demands 🔸 Low Job Control 🔸 Poor Support 🔸 Lack of Role Clarity 🔸 Poor Change Management 🔸 Inadequate Reward and Recognition 🔸 Bullying and Harassment 🔸 Violence and Aggression 🔸 Poor Workplace Relationships Psychological safety isn't just a buzzword; it's the cornerstone of a healthy workplace. When employees feel safe, they engage more, contribute ideas, and support one another, creating a dynamic and innovative environment. This responsibility lies with each of us. Let's come together to foster a safer, more supportive workplace for everyone! #SafetyIsOurBusiness #SafeWorkMonth

October is National Safe Work Month in Australia. This week, we reflect on the importance of workplace safety - Work Health and Safety (WHS) Fundamentals. These core principles are essential to creating a safe, supportive, and productive environment for everyone. Understanding and applying these fundamentals in an office or on-site is critical to preventing injuries, ensuring well-being, and fostering a proactive safety culture. Work Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility. When we’re aware of potential hazards and understand how to manage them, we create a safer working environment. WHS fundamentals include recognising risks, developing mitigation controls, following safety protocols, using equipment properly, and prioritising mental and physical health. By committing to these basics, we are all doing our part to protect ourselves and our colleagues. ◾ Stay informed about the latest safety guidelines and updates. ◾ Follow safety procedures diligently to prevent accidents. ◾ Use personal protective equipment (PPE) whenever required. ◾ Report hazards to your manager or safety officer immediately. #SafetyIsOurBusiness #SafeWorkMonth
