COX is a multidisciplinary practice with studios in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Auckland.

About us

COX acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waters of Australia. Our practice is built around designers that collaborate with clients, stakeholders and communities. We are By the Many, For the Many. COX seeks to do more with less, tapping into resourceful Australian culture to build value through ingenuity. We strive for quality through our beliefs in equality and opportunity. We embed culture in our designs, taking time to listen and understand cultural context and social impacts. We continuously seek the brightest minds to innovate design, process, and typology. We welcome collaboration, from both traditional and disruptive sources, should it have the potential to contribute to better design. Our history in Australian architecture began with the transformative Tocal Agricultural College in New South Wales. Epitomising the renowned Sydney School, the project had a deep and sensitive understanding of context and place, blended with honest and expressive structure and craft. This has informed the work of COX since. This history has established key principles we continue to prioritise today. One being the planning of cities and design of buildings that are adaptable to change – cultural, social, technological, and economic. The other is the creation of sustainable spaces – environmental strategies that are embedded, rather than added, to our designs. Today we work across Australasia and the globe on projects of international significance. Our team brings experience and enthusiasm to every new project and client. Our projects demonstrate a dedication to research as well as an ability to work with clients to deliver successful design solutions on time and budget. What we bring to our work transcends design. Our innovative technology and structural design solutions place emphasis and value on the design of core elements. Our structures designed as destinations to bring people together to share experiences that are unique to their time and place

COX would like to extend our congratulations to FDC Construction & Fitout having been recognised in the NSW Master Builders Excellence Awards for Best Interior Fitout $15M- $30M. Designed by COX, this fitout completed the research laboratories within the University of Sydney - Stage 1 Engineering & Technology Precinct building. The project accommodated many varied uses for the Biomedical and Chemical Engineering Schools and the analytical laboratories. The design for the research floors fulfilled the building’s vision of putting "engineering on display", in a light-filled, transparent environment, significantly improving the workplace for many world-standard programmes. Safety through a clear design process was paramount with attention to detail and exposed elements, reinforcing the experimental nature of the floors. Each room is bespoke, supporting its specific research needs, yet the design emphasised the importance of interactions between spaces and a holistic approach to shared resources. The quality of daylight in every space is exceptional, with abundant but carefully controlled natural light, meeting the precise demands of the work being conducted. The design and fitout construction carefully considered every research device, meticulously planning all installations to create an environment that is not only efficient and safe but also enjoyable, highlighting the accomplishments of each research stream. COX were honoured to be a part of a major milestone for Aura Holdings’ Somerset Indooroopilly as they officially opened the second and final stage.     Somerset Indooroopilly is more than a series of well-appointed apartments—it embraces high-density living as a means of “ageing in place.” Nestled within the grounds of Indooroopilly Golf Club, its design embodies a move towards sustainable urban living whilst retaining essential community assets.    Discover how this project achieves a balance between community needs, environmental sustainability, and long-term growth here: https://lnkd.in/gXKgR4CP   A special thank you to our Client Aura Holdings for the opportunity and Woollam Constructions for their work in turning the design into a reality.     📷 Photography (Image 1): Ryan Marais   📷 Photography (Images 3-5): Christopher Frederick Jones   Richard Coulson, Ali Farmer

The revitalisation of 100 King William Street is now complete, unveiling a fresh transformation in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD. Officially launched by Quintessential last week, the updated space brings modern design and enhanced amenities together for a more dynamic workday experience. With new hotel-style end-of-trip facilities, a reimagined lobby, and inviting food and beverage options, the building promotes work-life balance from morning to evening. The upgraded façade and entryways add a brighter, more welcoming presence, creating a workplace that supports both productivity and comfort. "The works have created a significantly enhanced environment for tenants, which we know is hugely important for staff retention and teams returning to the office," COX Director, Zoë King. “Preserving the building’s original character, the updates introduce dynamic third spaces—inviting areas for work and spontaneous interactions,” COX Associate Director, Kate Russo. Now in its 12th year, Victorian Healthcare Week brings together leading professionals from Australia and beyond. On October 16-17, more than 2000 people will attend the event in Melbourne.    This year COX Director Paul Curry will join Julia Beckingsale of #VictorianHealthBuildingAuthority and Mark Mitchell of Billard Leece Partnership to discuss their approach to co-designing with consumers and stakeholders on the New Footscray Hospital Project.     The $1.5B project is being delivered as a public private partnership (PPP) by Plenary Health, in partnership with the Victoria State Government (Victorian Government) and Western Health.      Whilst a hospital first and foremost, the new Footscray Hospital will be a catalyst for change, supporting a broader health, education, research and community precinct. The level of community engagement during the initial stages of the design will ensure that the hospital becomes a significant piece of placemaking in the city. Described as a ‘21st century cathedral,’ the new Sydney Metro Victoria Cross Station is not only a city-shaping transit hub, but an opportunity to corral civic pride and pay tribute to Sydney’s history. So how do you design a project to achieve all that?    According to Project Director David Holm – it’s all about a strong sense of place – blending heritage with nature. Oh, and making sure it’s successful as a world-class transport option too! We sat down with David to learn more about his six-year journey working on the project.
