  • Inspiration, Connection, and Big Aspirations! Our recent Jawoyn Association study tour to Uluru was an incredible journey of learning, collaboration, and growth. From world-class experiences dark sky experiences to profound insights gained from connecting with local Indigenous guides and leaders at the National Indigenous Training Academy, the trip was nothing short of transformational. This experience has sparked big aspirations for growing Jawoyn leadership and enhancing our tourism offerings at Nitmiluk National Park. With a renewed vision and a clear plan, we’re excited to bring more innovative and culturally enriching experiences to life for visitors while continuing to honor and share our living culture. A huge thank you to Tourism NT for their support through the Aboriginal Tourism Development in NT Parks and Reserves Grant Program - This made the journey possible and supports the future of Jawoyn tourism. Also a big shout out to Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia for their support in making this happen. Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected future for Indiginouse Tourism. #JawoynProud #NitmilukTours #BusinessDevelopment #CulturalTourism #Leadership

  • We won a Brolga Award! The critical role Jawoyn Association and Nitmiluk Tours play in driving economic outcomes for the Big Rivers region cannot be overstated. This impact extends beyond benefits for Jawoyn people—it supports the region’s economy more broadly. As the largest employer outside of government in the Big Rivers region, the Jawoyn Association provides jobs for 270 people across tourism, civil construction, building, family services, rangers, CDP, and more. Winning a Brolga is incredible recognition for just one part of this remarkable organisation. Keep up the inspiring work, Nitmiluk Tours and Cicada Lodge!

Nitmiluk Tours and Cicada Lodge were honoured to receive the Brolga Award for Tourism Restaurant and Catering Services at the recent Northern Territory Tourism Awards. There’s so much that goes into an award like this. On the night, we were proud to be represented by Jawoyn Board members, NT Parks (our co-managers of the National Park), and some young Jawoyn leaders. But the success of Nitmiluk comes from a much larger team. Across the Jawoyn Association, we have around 270 employees, making us the second-largest employer in the Big Rivers region after the government. At any given time, Nitmiluk alone has over 120 employees. This is a huge team effort, and the impact goes far beyond an award. A proportion of every dollar spent at Nitmiluk is reinvested into supporting the 10 Jawoyn communities across Big Rivers. This economic model reflects the Jawoyn vision of creating sustainable improvements in economic, social, cultural, health, and education outcomes—enhancing the quality of life for our people. We want to extend a special thanks to all the individuals and organisations who have supported us in achieving these goals. The model works, and we’re always open to sharing our approach with other Aboriginal organisations striving to improve outcomes for their communities. • Reconnecting with Country: Jawoyn Men's Walk on the Jatbula Trail 14 Jawoyn men, including Jawoyn Rangers, Jawoyn Staff and Traditional Owners, recently embarked on a significant journey across the Jatbula Trail. With vehicle support up to 17 Mile Creek, seven men continued the trek unsupported to Leliyn / Edith Falls, enduring rugged terrain, heavy packs, dehydrated meals, and blistered feet. Lazarus Manbulloo shared, “The vision was connecting men to country, walking and talking together. Country is medicine, and we were so happy to be walking in the footsteps of our elders. It’s a beautiful country out there, and we feel so special that we have been able to reconnect with it and have Jawoyn people walking that trail once again.” This walk marks a decade since a Jawoyn group last ventured onto the trail, symbolising renewed efforts to reconnect with our ancestral lands. Plans for future walks are already in motion, underscoring the importance of these journeys in maintaining and strengthening our cultural ties. We extend our deepest thanks to Nitmiluk Tours and Cicada Lodge, Jawoyn Rangers and Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife for making this journey possible. Together, we continue to honor our heritage and the sacred bond with our land. Country is indeed medicine. #JAWOYN #jatbulatrail #connectingwithcountry #culturalheritage #indigenousland #countryismedicine Cody McCracken

  • We are filled with gratitude as we reflect on the remarkable achievements of the Jawoyn Association celebrated yesterday through the signing of yet another Local Decision Making Agreement in partnership with the Northern Territory Government. We were deeply honoured to have Cheif Minister Eva Lawler, Hon Selena Uibo, alongside Jawoyn Chair Lisa Mumbin and CEO John Berto to share in this moment. Lisa delivered a powerful message of coming together and a shared vision for delivery on Jawoyns vision for its people. This agreement represents partnership between goverment and Aboriginal communities to assist the transition of government services and programs to community control. Local Decision Making provides a pathway so that communities can have more control over their own affairs, including service delivery based on a community’s aspirations and needs. Government and Aboriginal communities work together to develop policies and practices for service delivery, such as housing; local government; education, training and jobs; health; children and families; and law and justice. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Nitmiluk Tours and Cicada Lodge, Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service, and all our partners for their unwavering support in our journey of progress and empowerment.
