It’s fitting that today, on International Day of Education, we held our first continuing professional development in-service training day for 2025 for all our support staff and support workers 🎓 The theme of this year’s International Day of Education is: AI and education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation. In a world of AI and automation, at One&All we’re educating real people, to do real work, in a caring sector. AI can never replace us 🫶 We were delighted to be joined (in real life!) by the eminent Dr Jeffrey Chan who’s work in clinical practice leadership and governance, evidence-based policy development and service delivery is world-renowned 👏 Jeff facilitated sessions on the evolution of disability services and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD, 2006), as well as refreshed our understanding of the NDIS Code of Conduct and Reportable Incidents. This week we’re delighted to welcome our Participants back to the Hub after the summer break, and to launch our new Term 1, 2025, NDIS Program of Support for Community and Social Participation. Our theme for Term 1 workshops and programs is SENSES. Our senses are the gateways through which we experience and connect with the world around us. From sight, sound and scent to touch, taste, and beyond, each sense opens doors to creativity, emotion and shared experiences. We’re inviting our Participants to embark on a journey of sensory discovery with therapeutic and capacity-building outcomes. Through immersive workshops, collaborative projects, and moments of discovery, we’ll celebrate the beauty of our senses and the power they hold to connect us all, all while building capacity and skills along the way. We’re even more excited to share that Self-Portrait by Grace Dodd (One&All Participant), has been selected to represent the theme SENSES for our first-term materials. It’s a perfect reflection of the creativity and exploration that define our workshops. Her artwork was created during one of our self-portraiture art therapy workshops. In this session, participants closed their eyes and used their dominant hand to draw while sensing the textures, shapes and contours of their face with their other hand. The result is a raw, expressive and deeply personal masterpiece that captures Grace’s unique perspective! Grace has blossomed beautifully in our programs, and her growth shines through her art and how she connects with the world around her. As we approach the end of the year, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible social enterprise partners at BizCover, along with their business partners: AIG, Amazon Web Services (AWS), AUB Group Limited, DUAL Australia Pty Ltd, HDI Global Specialty SE, Point Insurance, QBE Insurance and @Vero.   Together they have generously donated much needed funds to help take our social enterprise program to new heights in 2025 and beyond 👏   The data is clear: employment rates for people with disability are significantly lower than the general population, and sadly Australia lags behind other developed nations. Moreover, current employment opportunities are limited and don’t effectively support people with disability who wish to pursue self-employment goals.   At One&All, we’re committed to changing this.   We’re collaborating with Australia’s leading UNSW Business School to co-design a model for a new disability entrepreneurship program, focused on empowering people with disability to build their own businesses and pursue self-employment opportunities. This initiative will offer personalised training and guidance for NDIS participants with entrepreneurial aspirations. We will also be working with Settlement Services International and their IgniteAbility learning program, co-designed by people with disability.   The funds donated by BizCover and their business partners will directly support the development of a tailored, participant-centred employment model - one that aligns with each individual's skills, interests and business goals.   We’re also excited to share the insights and learnings from this program with the broader sector, as part of our mission to raise the bar for disability services and become a demonstration site for innovation. None of this would be possible without the ongoing, long-term support of BizCover and the invaluable connections they've facilitated with their business partners.
