Step Back in Time: Queensland Parliament in 1912 🕰️ 📸 Journey behind the scenes and discover Parliament as it appeared over a century ago! These photos contrast the Legislative Council Chamber of 1912 with how it looks today, offering a fascinating glimpse into our state's history. The images are from Houses of Parliament Queensland, a beautifully crafted album photographed, compiled, and bound by Queensland-born press photographer Alfred A. White. This album showcases unique views of Parliament’s “smoking room” and the President of the Legislative Council’s office. The inside cover bears an inscription: "Parliamentary Library, Brisbane, 27-5-1912." Alfred White’s work dates back to as early as 1895, indicating he began his career in photography as a teenager. His legacy lives on through these incredible images, preserving Queensland’s parliamentary history for future generations. During restorations conducted in the 1980s, two chandeliers were purchased from the Waterford Crystal company in Ireland for the Legislative Council Chamber. Commonly known as the Red Chamber, this grand room is now used for ceremonial and formal occasions, such as the recent Opening of the 58th Parliament. The annual maintenance of the chandeliers can take up to two weeks and involves the cleaning and checking of every piece of crystal by hand. If you'd like to see these chandeliers in person, join a free guided tour of Parliament House! 👉 https://loom.ly/qM1sJ-A #QldParlaiment #Qldhistory #thisisqueensland #brisbaneheritage #Brisbanelivingheritage #Brisbanehistory #brisbaneanyday #HeritageAustralia #Australianhistory #Qldhistory #thisisqueensland
