Road smarts! Tech embedded in the road surface has helped cut the number of nose-to-tail crashes by 17.8%. We’re using special detectors at Melbourne's Power Street exit to measure the speed, volume and density of traffic, and when a queue builds up it triggers overhead signs to warn drivers – giving them more time to slow down. The data is also shared with traffic lights which can then be adjusted to allow more green light time if surrounding roads are clear. The result is a safer, smoother and faster experience for motorists – with the average speed on the exit ramp increasing by almost 5% in the morning peak.

Birds flying high, bridges of steel 👀

The kids are alright.   Eye-catching road safety campaigns have again started rolling out as part of the annual Re:act behaviour change program – an initiative we've proudly supported for nine years. Created by students to raise awareness and positive change targeting their 17 to 25-year-old peers who are distracted by mobile phones.   These innovative winning campaigns can now be seen on billboard and digital screens across Australia, so keep your eyes peeled. Congratulations to all the students who got involved to help make a difference.   #RoadSafety

We teamed up with The Engineering Link Group for a unique competition challenging students to build the strongest bridge using spaghetti and glue. Our Westlink M7 Motorway Control Centre in Eastern Creek was buzzing with excitement as around 200 students from across NSW showcased their engineering skills. Huge congratulations to James Ruse Agricultural High School, for their bridge that held an incredible 20kgs, earning them the title of the strongest bridge! Shout out to Lane Cove West Public School and Gosford High School for winning the ‘Transurban Award’ for creativity. M7-M12 Integration Project

Leena decided to ignite her passion by joining our mentoring program – created to empower women studying Technology or Engineering.   After ten years as a professional musician, she went back to University to study Civil and Infrastructure Engineering. Her engineering career began though the Ignite program, and she is now a Senior Manager working on the West Gate Tunnel Project.
