Late last year, business and mining lobby groups derailed crucial nature reforms that would have established Australia’s first national environmental regulator. Now, the bills are listed for debate in Parliament next week. This could be our last chance to fix broken nature laws in this term of Parliament. We are calling on the Albanese Government to work with the crossbench to pass these nature protection bills as an urgent priority. 📩 Now is the time to take action, contact your MP today: https://lnkd.in/gtDSxHg6 🐨 Without strong laws and an independent regulator, more of Australia’s unique wildlife and ecosystems remain at risk. The Government made a 2022 election promise to deliver these reforms—it’s time to hold them to it. Anthony Albanese Tanya Plibersek #NatureLaws #NaturePositive https://lnkd.in/gmaym4QW

Max the dog is sniffing out critical insights for koala conservation! 🐨 With support from Koala, who’ve donated over $3.6 million to WWF-Australia conservation efforts, Max the springer spaniel has uncovered a rare, chlamydia-free, and genetically unique group of koalas in the Dorrigo Plateau. This discovery is part of surveys conducted across 115 sites in northern NSW, as part of the Cores, Corridors and Koalas project. The surveys revealed over 80% of sites showed koala activity, a sign of hope for this iconic species. Using detection dogs like Max, the project is providing critical insights into koala health, genetics, and activity to guide conservation strategies. 💚 These koalas are facing growing threats. Logging continues in areas critical to their survival, including forests marked for the proposed Great Koala National Park. Together with Koala, Great Eastern Ranges and Canines for Wildlife, WWF-Australia is working to secure the future of these incredible animals. 📖 Learn more about the work of our four and two-legged friends here: https://lnkd.in/ezHquHbY #KoalaConservation #GreatKoalaNationalPark #AustralianConservation #EndNativeLogging

🌏 $2 Billion for a Green Aluminium Revolution 🌱 Big news for Australia’s environment and economy: the federal government has announced a $2 billion plan to help the aluminium industry transition to renewable energy by 2036. This move will reduce emissions and support communities like Tomago, Portland, Bell Bay, and Boyne Island to thrive in a sustainable future. “The health of Australia’s environment and economy depends on a fast, ecologically-sound, and just transition to renewable energy,” said Nat Burke, WWF-Australia’s Head of Regenerative Climate. “Today’s announcement is an important step in that direction.” More here: https://lnkd.in/gVMtQpG5 #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #Decarbonisation #Carbon #AusPol

Is your city prioritising nature, or is it just another concrete jungle? 🌡️ Recent data from Toongabbie in Sydney’s west shows the incredible impact of trees. On the same blistering day, a tree-lined street measured 29.3°C, while a treeless one soared to 50.1°C — a 20-degree difference. More trees mean safer, cooler cities. Excess heat and sun exposure are serious risks during summer, and trees provide more than just a shady spot by: 💧 Cooling the air around them by releasing water 💨 Filtering out harmful pollutants ❤️ Boosting mood, easing anxiety, and sparking creativity As global temperatures rise and cities expand, the choice is clear: incorporate nature, or endure rising urban heat. By designing spaces that embrace nature, we're creating cooler, healthier, and more liveable cities. How green is your city? 🌳 #climate #greencities #australia

When we work with nature, incredible things happen. 💚 Throughout 2024, Climate Resilient by Nature, an initiative funded by the Australian Government in partnership with WWF-Australia, continued to support high-integrity nature-based solutions in the Indo-Pacific. That meant supporting community-led projects that worked with nature to tackle climate change, restore and protect critical ecosystems, build sustainable livelihoods and increase resilience to climate shocks. Take a look back at some of the year’s wins for climate, communities and nature here: https://lnkd.in/g9eciHaS
