An excellent new report from The Nature Conservancy on "Blue Carbon: Scientific Best Practice Guides for Land-Based Carbon Projects." It shares the latest methods and tools for developing high-quality blue carbon credits. 🌍
Did you know that blue carbon ecosystems like mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrasses are powerful carbon sinks? These coastal habitats can sequester carbon at rates up to 10 times higher than terrestrial forests. However, quantifying and crediting blue carbon projects presents unique challenges. Understanding the scientific best practices for blue carbon crediting projects is crucial to ensuring these markets operate with integrity and maximize climate impact. The complexities of measuring soil carbon, accounting for sea level rise, and engaging coastal communities have been a mystery to many in carbon markets---until now. The Nature Conservancy's new report "Blue Carbon: Scientific Best Practice Guides for Land-Based Carbon Projects" shares the latest methods and tools for developing high-quality blue carbon credits. 🌍 Thanks to my coauthor Lindsey Smart and our great team of reviewers!
