🌟 Meet-the-Data: The German Portal for Medical Research Data (FDPG) 🌟 🚀 It’s that time again! In the 5th episode of our series, we shed light on a central portal for requesting routine data from German university hospitals. The 𝐺𝑒𝑟𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑃𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑀𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ 𝐷𝑎𝑡𝑎 (𝐹𝐷𝑃𝐺) enables the use of patient data and biosamples from routine care for research while ensuring compliance with strict data protection regulations. 🛡️ 🎙️ Our guest speaker, Dr. Marie Gebhardt from the TMF e. We Welcome Professor Konrad H. Stopsack to the Faculty of Human and Health Sciences   Konrad H. Stopsack has been a professor of epidemiological methods and etiological research within the Faculty of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Bremen since the 2024/2025 winter semester. He also heads the Department of Epidemiological Methods and Etiological Research at the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – Leibniz-Institut für Präventionsforschung und Epidemiologie – BIPS.   Professor Stopsack researches how diseases develop and can be prevented. His focus is on prostate cancer, precancerous stages, and risk factors that influence the risk of chronic diseases and is particularly interested in how lifestyle, diet, and environment interact with genetic and molecular mechanisms. With innovative analysis methods and the further development of epidemiological study methods, he contributes to the realization of precise data collection and high-quality analyses in cohort studies such as the NAKO health study (NAKO Gesundheitsstudie).   Stopsack shares his enthusiasm for epidemiology in his teaching. He sees the education of the next generation of scientists as a central task and teaches the basics of epidemiology and its application in his classes. He wants to show students what a special environment Bremen offers for the subject: “The University of Bremen and BIPS offer expertise that makes it possible to advance prevention research holistically – from data collection to implementation research,” explains Stopsack.   With a medical degree from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, a master's degree in biostatistics and epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and stints at the Mayo Clinic and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Stopsack has extensive international experience. He is now looking forward to anchoring internationally recognized epidemiology in Bremen for the long term and developing it further with students and researchers. Foto: Budde, BIPS

The Department of Epidemiology’s seminar series is coming back with an all new schedule of exciting speakers for the spring semester at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health! These seminars are free, open to the public and come in both in person and virtual-only formats. Long a tradition in our department, this lunchtime seminar series was developed to promote discussion, share work in progress, and summarize recently completed work. The seminars are held Wednesdays from 1:00-1:50PM ET during the academic year. They typically last for about 40mins, leaving time for Q&A. 🔊Neue Podcast-Folge: Apotheken im digitalen Wandel: Wie sieht die Arzneimittelversorgung der Zukunft aus?   💊Megakonzern oder lokale Apotheke: wer versorgt uns in Zukunft mit Medikamenten? In dieser Folge des Digital Public Health Podcasts spricht Host Rasmus Cloes mit Dr. Stefan Schwenzer, Inhaber der KOSMOS Apotheke in Bremen und als Vorstandsmitglied der Apothekerkammer Bremen dort für Digitalisierung verantwortlich. Im Mittelpunkt des Gesprächs steht die Rolle der Apotheken in einem digitalisierten Gesundheitswesen. 📝Konkret geht es zu Beginn um die Einführung des E-Rezepts. Stefan erklärt, wie es die Arbeitsabläufe in Apotheken erleichtert, aber auch neue Probleme mit sich bringt – etwa durch technische Ausfälle oder unzureichende Anpassungen an den Apothekenalltag. 🩺Ein weiteres zentrales Thema ist die #Medikationssicherheit. Stefan beschreibt, wie digitale Werkzeuge genutzt werden, um Wechselwirkungen zu prüfen und #Medikationspläne zu erstellen. Doch viele Apotheken schöpfen diese Möglichkeiten nicht aus, da finanzielle und personelle Ressourcen fehlen. Besonders kleine Apotheken können die hohen Kosten für digitale Neuerungen nur schwer tragen. ⚕Rasmus und Stefan sprechen außerdem über die Vision, Apotheken als „digitale #Gesundheitskioske“ weiterzuentwickeln. Projekte wie digitale Blutdruckmessungen und Medikations-Coachings zeigen, welches Potenzial Apotheken in der Prävention haben. Dafür braucht es jedoch eine stärkere finanzielle Förderung durch die Politik, betont Stefan. 📬Ein weiterer Diskussionspunkt ist der Wettbewerb mit #Versandapotheken und internationalen Anbietern. Stefan kritisiert, dass die Digitalisierung oft große Marktplayer bevorzugt, während lokale Apotheken unter Druck geraten. Sein Appell an die Politik: Mehr Fokus auf #Versorgungssicherheit und Unterstützung für Apotheken vor Ort. 🤝Zum Abschluss gibt Stefan einen Ausblick in die Zukunft der Apotheken. Er sieht in digitalen Innovationen große Chancen, mahnt aber, dass die persönliche Beratung und die Nähe zu den Patienten erhalten bleiben müssen. Apotheken können wichtige Partner im Gesundheitswesen bleiben – wenn die richtigen Rahmenbedingungen geschaffen werden.
