More and more often you need to direct a laser into space. Be it lidar measurements in the upper atmosphere, satellite laser ranging or satellite laser communication. We are proud that Applied Optics published our paper on doing so safely without potentially harming aircraft pilots. In the paper "Algorithm for detecting airborne objects with a thermal infrared camera to ensure a safe operation of laser-optical ground stations" Jakob Steurer and colleagues present an infrared camera based system, which detects aircrafts with 99.8% accuracy. Congratulations! Universität Stuttgart European Space Agency - ESA DiGOS Potsdam GmbH

Join our team!

We are honored to announce that the paper titled "Method for improving the positional accuracy in passive optical detection of space objects", published in Applied Optics, was chosen as editor’s pick. We congratulate Ranga Rosok and his colleagues. The Institute of Technical Physics developed a method to increase the accuracy of trajectories. It uses a shutter based, high resolution camera system that was designed and set up to continuously observe the sky for LEO objects. An exact detection and determination of the trajectory of space objects including space debris has become increasingly important. #space #spacedebris #spacesafety #ssa #sustainablespace #sensors
