What’s better than reducing carbon emissions? How about negative emissions. With the Ørsted Kalundborg CO2 Hub, we aim to actively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Having been granted a 20-year contract by the Danish Energy Agency, the project will begin to capture 430,000 tonnes of biogenic CO2 annually from our wood chip- and straw-fired combined heat and power plants at Asnæs and Avedøre from 2026. The carbon dioxide will then be shipped to Norway and stored in a reservoir in the North Sea. The impact? Think of the annual carbon emissions from 200,000 cars. 🚗 It’s roughly like taking that pollution out of the atmosphere and burying it 2.6km deep below the seabed. This is just one of many projects recently featured in our new innovation report. Check out the whole report at https://lnkd.in/dkfUS7ys

Creating a world that runs entirely on green energy.
Om os
Ørsted’s vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy. We develop, construct and operate offshore and onshore wind farms, solar farms and energy storage facilities, bioenergy plants and provide energy products to our customers. A decade ago, we initiated our transformation from a black to a green energy company as DONG Energy. In 2017, we divested our upstream oil and gas business, thereby completing our transformation to become fully dedicated to green energy. Our transformation means that we’ve become too green for our name. DONG, originally short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas, is no longer an accurate description of who we are, or who we want to be. So now we’re Ørsted. Learn more about our history as DONG Energy on linkedin.com/DONGEnergy

As we scale up renewable energy, we must do so in a way that not only helps halt and reverse biodiversity loss, but also actively contributes to nature restoration. This means making the energy transition a true force for good for the climate and biodiversity. So, what steps can we take to deliver long-term benefits to people and the planet, and how do we measure them? 🌡 Find out at orsted.com/measuringnature. #WorldOceanMonth #Biodiversity #RenewableEnergy

First turbine at Germany's largest offshore wind farm! Once complete, Borkum Riffgrund 3 will host 83 wind turbines and have an installed capacity of 913 MW. This will go a long way in supporting German industry’s decarbonisation efforts through corporate power purchase agreements (CPPAs). Together with Gode Wind 3, our other German project under construction, we’ll be adding 106 wind turbines in the German North Sea – each with a capacity of 11 MW. Great work by our colleagues, partners, and contractors! Thanks to all who’ve made this possible, including Nuveen, a TIAA company, Siemens Gamesa, and Seaway7. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dc9mq3Wn

Biodiversity and climate are fundamentally interconnected. Climate change is a large and growing driver of biodiversity loss – and together with renewable energy, restoring biodiversity is a critical tool for reaching our climate targets. Restoring biodiversity to our ecosystems can deliver over one third of the action we need to avoid the worst impacts of climate change by 2030. But while there are established metrics to account for renewable energy’s carbon reductions, there’s never been an easy way to measure our actions to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. That’s why we made one. Check it out and give us your feedback at orsted.com/measuringnature. #WorldOceanMonth #Biodiversity #RenewableEnergy

In 2024, we set out to build offshore and onshore wind farms that will deliver 7.7 GW of renewable energy once in operation, enough to power millions of homes around the globe. To celebrate #GlobalWindDay, we wanted to share an update on four of our projects: 🎯 Hornsea 3, the world’s single largest offshore wind farm, is progressing well after we took final investment decision in December. 🎯 Borkum Riffgrund 3, Germany’s largest offshore wind farm, has installed more than half of its monopile foundations and will soon install the first of 83 wind turbines. ✅ Greater Changhua 1 and 2a, the largest offshore wind farms in Taiwan, were completed and inaugurated in April. ✅ South Fork Wind, New York’s first offshore wind farm, was completed and inaugurated in March. … With many more in the works. Making progress!

Biodiversity is our life support system. Three billion people rely on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods, and half of the world’s gross domestic product depends on nature. But nature is in crisis. Together with environmental NGOs and governments, Ørsted is working to reverse this crisis, take climate action, and restore our planet’s biodiversity. And now, we have a clear framework for measuring our biodiversity impact and holding ourselves accountable. Learn more at orsted.com/measuringnature. #WorldOceanMonth #Biodiversity #RenewableEnergy
