‘I wanted to create a story about a human being who was under pressure, how he reacted… the human being... Hammarskjöld was on a mission, wanting to change the world. He wanted to make the world a better place,’ Per Fly, director of the film ‘Hammarskjöld’.    🎥 On 24 October, UN City Copenhagen celebrated #UNDay with a special #docUNight screening of Hammarskjöld, a powerfully thought-provoking film that brings to life the enduring legacy of former UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld.    📣 In a moderated conversation by Caroline Rusten, Chief of Public Partnerships at UN Women, we explored Per Fly’s vision and creative journey behind the film, and the challenges of portraying leadership and moral courage amid the mystery of Hammarskjöld's untimely death.    ‘When he goes out on that last flight to Ndola; that was such a risky thing to do, and he must have known that, that he could easily die, but he did it [...] I think young people are beginning to understand what kind of a man he was. He was an extraordinary character, and he could do so much. He was both a poet writing poems, he was a politician, and he was fighting. He was an idealist,’ remarked Per Fly.    💬 ‘Hammarskjöld embodied the UN’s highest ideals, and as we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded of the urgent need for those ideals in today’s world,’ shared Henrik Fredborg Larsen, Director of the UNDP Nordic Representation Office.    🇺🇳 On the 79th anniversary of the UN Charter, let us come together to celebrate the work of the United Nations to make a difference in people’s lives and create a more sustainable, peaceful world for all. On 24 October, we gather in the spirit of multilateralism to reflect on our shared responsibilities and aspirations for the future, and the profound impact the United Nations has had on the world – advancing peace, security, and sustainable development for all.   🌍 The recently adopted #PactForTheFuture 'calls on us to align our energies with the understanding that what happens in one corner of the world ripples across all others – that we are, in every sense, interconnected and interdependent', highlighted Dr. Hans Kluge, Regional Director, WHO Regional Office for Europe.   🇺🇳 This #UNDay in UN City Copenhagen, we unpacked the Pact by focusing on its two pivotal elements – Financing for Development and Supporting People on the Move. Experts from UNDP Danmark, UN Women, UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, IOM Nordics, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, together with IFU and the Embassy of Egypt in Denmark, discussed innovative #financing strategies, the economic impacts of #genderequality and #climate resilience, and the essential role of data-driven approaches for addressing #migration, #humanitarian crises, and sustainable #development.   As we celebrate the 79th anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945, let us amplify the words of United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres: 'Our world is going through a time of turbulence and a period of transition. But we cannot wait for perfect conditions.
