Unveiling the Sky : Atmospheric data & modeling for Direct to Earth Free Space Optical Communication.
À propos
MIRATLAS SAS, designs and manufactures instrumentation providing continuous, real-time, atmospheric measurements for Free Space Optical Communications (FSOC), cloud cover, turbulence, absorption. The Sky Monitor is built for autonomous, remote, 24/7/365 outdoor operation including a wide suite of passive sensors available for the first time in such compact and easy to install package. Deployed in network, the Sky Monitors allow for the simultaneous survey of potential sites for Optical Ground Stations (OGS). The OGS operation, are optimised by the Sky Monitors' precise weather and atmospheric conditions nowcasting. This ensure the most efficient use of each asset by minimizing handovers from one OGS to the next.

Miratlas, was invited by the #Scylight committee to present for the first time its LaserCom PathFinder application for optical ground segment optimization. This application has already been used by different satellite and Tiers 1 operators. Guillaume Vialaneix, head of R&D, showcased how LaserCom PathFinder leverages atmospheric data and modelling to optimize the OGS network distribution over an area to maximize the direct to Earth LaserCom availability and optimize overall network efficiency. This event was the opportunity to discuss with our customers and partners, including Cailabs, Viasat and TII who was presenting its newly commissioned OGS in Abu Dhabi. We thank European Space Agency - ESA for their long time support. https://lnkd.in/eZC4EqeV

Great read from Jeff Huggins from Cailabs. The key enabling technology for Direct to Earth #LaserCom is weather driven network planning and routing through high precision atmospheric data and modeling. #Global #Connectivity is New Space's killer app, it's metrics are simple: 1. #Availability, 1/3 of the World's population is still #unconnected, 2. #Price, using radio limited capacity even VHTS isn't enought, 3. #Capacity, ditto, radio spectrum is limited and costly, 4. #Latency, <50ms means LEO megaconstellation SpaceX set out to bring down the cost of kilo to orbit, not the cost of the rocket itself. Its key enabling technology wasn't the rocket engine, it was solving the complicated problem of propulsive landing making #reusable #rockets possible. Global Connectivity means the convergence of #Satcom and #Telecom by using the right tool for the right job: #Lasercom for #Core network and #Radio for #Edge network. The key enabling technology for Direct to Earth Lasercom is weather driven network planning and routing. It is not a complicated problem, it is as complexe as atmospheric turbulence: - Not enough OGS and the availability won't reach the 99.999% required for Core network #backhauling - Too many OGS and the business case won't close since mbps/month/€ will be too high. The Optical Ground Segment, size, complexity needs to be in the Goldilocks zone to support constellations with the right service at the right price. Let Miratlas designs your #Goldilocks Optical Ground Segment. https://lnkd.in/ep-YFKCi
