Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue concluded with impactful discussions and insights from global leaders and stakeholders. Spain's Secretary of State for Energy echoed the Spanish Prime Minister's call to "Green Baby Green" in response to Trump's "Drill Baby Drill," showcasing their commitment to advancing green energy initiatives. The UN Assistant Secretary General and Director, UNDP, emphasized addressing inequalities, poverty, and discrimination as crucial steps for successful decarbonization efforts. Leadership from Germany and the EU expressed strong support for development cooperation to sustain positive impacts. Vice Chancellor Dr. Robert Haeback highlighted the role of Fossil Fuels in driving conflicts and underscored the importance of renewable energy in enhancing security and resilience. Germany's notable achievement of increasing renewable energy capacity from 40 percent to 60 percent in three years exemplifies progress towards sustainability. The focus on reducing dependencies and ensuring reliability in trading systems is paramount for future sustainability. Building strong strategic alliances and partnerships will be key to continuing this progress. Heinrich Boell Foundation New Delhi, India #BETD25 #energytransition #justtransition #renewables

CW: mention of sexual assault Many of us grow up feeling undeserving of romantic love. As a fat and sick person, this is a common shared experience. We’re used to seeing magazines and movies repeatedly reminding us that thin is hot, fat is undesirable. The world constantly tells us, even if we make the mistake to forget, that we’re not enough as we are. I grew up reading magazines that screamed at me about the beauty of thinness while glorifying diet culture. So it’s unsurprising that so many of us never experience feeling love in the bodies we move through the world in. I now know that my body deserves to take up space, to be loved on, loudly and wholly, but I didn’t always know this. 🔗 READ: https://lnkd.in/gMGpQAae In my essay comic, I write about navigating the world in a fat, disabled body, and the journey I’m still on to unshrink my body while navigating hospitals, isolation, violence and ableism. Please read it, share it, and tell me what your experiences of unshinking your body have looked like? How are you remembering to take up space? We discussed Human Security and Resource Politics at Munich Security Conference. During our side-event “The Geopolitical Elephant in the Room: Securing Critical Raw Materials without dumping Standards?”, our argument went like this: Reducing critical raw material dependencies is a security imperative for Germany and the EU. So is an interest in a stable and peaceful world. In an increasingly competitive world, the EU has to balance the need to move decisively towards climate neutrality while upholding environmental, social and governance standards. Even though we're witnessing a race to the bottom of standards currently, this is possible and can eventually lead to becoming a competitive advantage. Solutions discussed are the reduction of resource use and resource efficiency, circular economy set-ups, independent monitoring of environmental impacts, trust and confidence building through fair and reliable legal frameworks and local value creation as a must. Thanks to our minerals specialist Johanna Sydow and the valuable perspectives and ideas shared!
