Over ons

Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers offer growing possibilities in the areas of trade, food, energy and recreation. To ensure global prosperity for next generations and keep the earth habitable with an ever-increasing population, it is essential to utilise and protect these possibilities as efficiently and responsibly as possible. Damen provides unprecedented maritime solutions for this, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. We offer versatile platforms that enable our customers to be successful and that raise the standard in terms of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We want to become the most sustainable shipbuilders in the world. In the previous century, we revolutionized shipbuilding. Thanks to standardisation, we were able to supply our customers with better ships, faster. More than 90 years and 6,500 ships later, the importance of standardisation is only increasing in the light of zero-emissions and digitalisation. We do not build our ships alone, but together with an extensive network from the international maritime cluster. We firmly believe in the power of sharing. It means that we also use our craftsmanship to build platforms on production facilities that are not ours. In this way, through knowledge transfer, we not only contribute to better, safer and more eco-friendly ships, but also to sustainable local development and prosperity. We are a family owned business and stand for fellowship, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and stewardship. Our playing field is the world. Our horizon is the long term. We firmly believe in our team, but also in the strength of the individual. Each colleague is an entrepreneur, focused on ensuring truly satisfied clients and making our contribution to a better world. In every aspect of our business the next generation is our starting point.

Second CSOV order for TSSM. We’ve recently signed an agreement for the order of a Commissioning Service Operations Vessel (CSOV) with Ta San Shang Marine Co., Ltd. The vessel is the second Damen CSOV currently on order from TSSM. The vessels will support the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms in Taiwanese waters, together with TSS Pioneer, an already operational vessel. In a boost for sustainability, the new CSOVs will feature a diesel-battery hybrid power generation system and be fully prepared for methanol propulsion in the future. #Damen #CSOV #TSSM #OffshoreWind #Sustainability

The vessel is named in honor of Hendrik Hamel, a Dutch sailor who was one of the first Europeans to set foot in Korea. Hamel was born in Damen’s hometown of Gorinchem in the 17th century, where the Hamel Museum is also located, honouring Hamel’s role in the relationship between South-Korea and the Netherlands. Hamel left for the Indies with the VOC (Dutch East India Company) and spent thirteen years in Korea. Following this, he wrote a journal about his experiences – the earliest first-hand account of the country by a westerner. Hendrik Hamel is therefore seen in Korea as the person who opened up the country to the west. #Damen #Hamel #Maritime

When it comes to the development of our Service Operations Vessel, we’ve certainly done our research! The vessel has evolved over three successive generations with significantly improved flexibility, performance and comfort. In its latest form, the SOV has emerged as a fully electric version, pioneering offshore charging capabilities. Read more on how our RD&I department, together with a listening ear to client needs, has played a vital role in the development of this offshore support vessel: https://damen.one/2x #Damen #Maritime #SOV

Welcome back! Our Vlissingen repair yard recently played host to a regular visitor. IT International Telecom Inc.’s cable laying vessel, the IT Intrepid, docked at the yard for her seventh special survey. The vessel was built by UK shipyard Swan Hunter back in 1989. Having been well cared for her by her owners, IT Intrepid is still going strong 35 years later! Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen Commercial Manager Jeroen Schotel: “It’s always nice to welcome a returning customer, it gives me the confidence we have understood their needs correctly and delivered a service to their satisfaction.” #Damen #Shiprepair #ittelecom

Forging ahead. Our client, MULLER Dordrecht, recently held a naming ceremony for their new ASD Tug 3212 En Avant 26 – the third new vessel we have delivered to them in as many years. The powerful, manoeuvrable tug has been installed with an IMO Tier III compliant SCR after treatment system, significantly reducing emissions. The tug was one of eleven recently transported from Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Haiphong to the Port of Rotterdam aboard Big Lift’s heavy lift vessel Happy Star. The work continues with an ASD Tug 2811 currently under construction for Muller Dordrecht in Vietnam. #Damen #Tugs #Muller

Power sharing. With a MJR charger installed on a Commissioning Service Operations Vessel (CSOV), a fully electric crew transfer vessel (CTV) operation becomes the solution of today. The CTV connects to the CSOV via a bell mouth which is placed on the fore deck of the CTV, the connection is made whists in push on operation to the CSOV boat landing. This enables charging to take place in a safe, highly automated manner, repowering the vessel in the space of a few hours. #Damen #Maritime #Charging

Better late than never! Delivered two years ago during the tail end of the Covid pandemic, the 167-metre chemical tanker M/T Pacifico missed her own party. Now, the latest vessel to enter the Donsötank fleet has been named in a ceremony hosted by our Dunkirk yard. Serving as godmother to the vessel was Ms Anette Lorentsson. Pacifico is a modern vessel with a sustainable profile, featuring a Wärtsilä dual-fuel main engine, batteries and heat recovery system. Bon voyage et bon vent Pacifico! #Damen #Donsötank #Shiprepair
