A message from Happy Owners and 𝙎𝙚𝙖 𝙀𝙖𝙜𝙡𝙚’s Captain Henry Say: “𝙎𝙚𝙖 𝙀𝙖𝙜𝙡𝙚 during our sail in Sydney Harbour the other day, the yacht put on an exceptional showcase as we sailed down the harbour under a pilot exemption. The conditions were ideal, with a gentle 10-15 knot sea breeze, 𝙎𝙚𝙖 𝙀𝙖𝙜𝙡𝙚 effortlessly sailed at speeds of up to 15 knots at times, demonstrating its impressive handling and performance. The yacht’s elegance on the water was unmatched, drawing the attention of plenty of onlookers as we cruised through the iconic harbour. It was an incredible experience, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how the yacht performed. This is a real testament to the quality and vision of the yard, naval architects, designers and sail makers.” Video by Crew 𝙎𝙚𝙖 𝙀𝙖𝙜𝙡𝙚 #SeaEagle #SYSeaEagle #Sailing #Sydney #NewYear #threemastedschooner #superyacht #RoyalHuisman #MarkWhiteleyDesign #NorthSails #DykstraNavalArchitects

Over ons
Dykstra Naval Architects brings over 50 years of experience in the design, redesign, naval architecture and marine engineering of classic and modern performance yachts and offers preliminary and concept designs for both pleasure and commercially operated yachts. Founded in 1969 by Gerard Dykstra, and led now by Managing Director, Thys Nikkels, the award winning team at Dykstra is comprised of passionate sailors actively sailing our own designs and redesigns using first hand practical experience combined with in-house developed software to provide expertise in spars, rigs, and structural analysis that is current, tested and tried. The combination of sailing experience, skilled engineers and passion for new and sustainable techniques drives Dykstra Naval Architects to realize the most challenging concepts. Great examples are the Dynarig and Aerorig concepts. These ideas can now be used to create new perspectives in yachting and create a new chapter in the yachting history. Passion for Innovation and Green technologies! To realize these concepts, the engineers use first hand practical experience combined with in-house developed software to provide expertise in spars, rigs, and structural analysis that is current, tested and tried. The designs are modeled and tested in wind tunnels and towing tanks. These results are compared with classical theoretical hydrodynamic and aerodynamic models. To analyze design details CFD can be used. Dykstra Naval Architects is often asked to contribute in other projects to design and research the rigging and sailing plan. Constant research is done for new methods and materials, both by University Interns as by the Dykstra Naval Architects team. A combination that proved to work well to keep everybody in touch with latest technology. Dykstra Naval Architects provided the Naval Architecture and re-design for some of the most challenging refits. Great examples are Adela, Adix, JK7 Velsheda, JK3 Shamrock V, J5 Ranger, JK4 Endeavour, Athena

Foundation Zero is thrilled to co-present a new research on enhancing photovoltaic panel efficiency in partially shaded conditions, such as on the deck of a sailing yacht. The white paper presents a novel control strategy to manage a two-step MPPT conversion process. The design uses cell string-level converters, which adjust to localised shading conditions to maintain optimal power output, connected to a second isolated converter to step up the voltage for integration into a bipolar DC grid. The use of gallium nitride (GaN) transistors further enhances the system’s efficiency. The experimental results show a significant increase in power generation compared to traditional optimisers, making this a promising solution for the deployment of photovoltaic arrays which may encounter unpredictable partial shading patterns. Foundation Zero remains committed to sharing cutting-edge projects like this, which drive sustainable energy innovation in challenging settings. • Research company: DC Opportunities R&D BV • Marine design partners: Dykstra Naval Architects, Vitters Shipyard and VRIPACK DESIGN Authors: Lukas Irazusta Gorostidi, Jesse Echeverry, Hidde Moens, Bob van Someren and Laurens Mackay #environment #zerocarbonyachting #innovation #technology #alternativeenergy

𝘼𝙌𝙐𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙐𝙎 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘 The 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 designed modern classic 65m / 212ft 𝘼𝙌𝙐𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙐𝙎 is being transported to Amsterdam from the Royal Huisman Vollenhove yard that has housed “Project 408 Aquarius II” for detailed outfitting and extensive testing. This performance ketch is the successor to the first 𝘼𝙌𝙐𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙐𝙎 (now Apsara) also designed by 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, Mark Whiteley Design and built by Royal Huisman, delivered in 2018. The 56m / 184ft world-cruising ketch was deemed “close to perfect” by her experienced owners: a husband-and-wife team who simply wanted a larger yacht with even more impressive performance — the stunning new big sister, 𝘼𝙌𝙐𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙐𝙎. It’s a great compliment when owners value their yacht so highly that the only material change they want is a larger version, built by exactly the same team. The team behind both 𝘼𝙌𝙐𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙐𝙎 yachts includes owners’ project manager Godfrey Cray, 𝗗𝘆𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, interior designer Mark Whiteley, and superyacht builder Royal Huisman. While retaining the elegance of her predecessor, 𝘼𝙌𝙐𝘼𝙍𝙄𝙐𝙎 boasts a 45% increase in volume and features larger social and crew areas, improved integrated sail-handling systems, and a lifting fin keel for optimal performance. The yacht combines timeless style with state-of-the-art technology and outstanding craftsmanship. #AQUARIUS #SYAQUARIUS #Ketch #Amsterdam #Sailingyacht #performanceketch #Hebo #RoyalHuisman #MarkWhiteleydesign #GodfreyCray #Rondal #Doyle #dykstranavalarchitects

NEW 57M DYNARIG SAILING CATAMARAN FOR Dykstra Naval Architects ASC57: 57m Adventure Sailing Catamaran Echo Yachts has commenced construction of the ASC57, at their superyacht building facility in the Australian Marine Complex. This groundbreaking project brings together industry leaders from across the globe. In partnership with Dutch sailing yacht designers Dykstra Naval Architects and Australia's aluminium multihull experts One2three Naval Architects, the team will deliver the world's largest sailing catamaran to date. Drawing inspiration from Echo Yachts' 2023 new build motor yacht M/Y Charley 2, the ASC57 sailing yacht will feature similar luxury accommodation, a vast array of water toys, and helicopter landing capabilities. However, this super yacht introduces a twin-Dynarig sail system by Southern Spars, paired with Dykstra's sleek and refined sailing yacht aesthetics. As a result of the addition of sail power, a regenerative power system will be installed, utilising twin shaft generators and a battery storage system to allow for silent running under sail. With its hydrodynamic efficient aluminium hulls, full sail-powered propulsion, power regeneration and deployment options, the ASC57 offers significant eco-friendly performance advantages and greener modes of operation compared to traditional motor yachts. An extremely efficient aluminium hull form is complemented by twin Dynarigs providing a total sail area of some 1660 m2 for eco-efficient long range cruising. Weight reduction, simplicity and ease of operation will further characterize this project. Dykstra Naval Architects are providing the yacht's overall exterior styling, layout and naval architecture. Detailed naval architecture and structural design are being performed by Australian firm One2Three Naval Architects.
