About us

At Fletcher Living, we believe the new Kiwi dream is bigger than a quarter acre. It’s about living the life you want. For over 113 years we have proudly built more than just homes, but places designed to nurture living in all its beauty, richness and variety. We create neighbourhoods complete with parks, shops and playgrounds. Neighbourhoods that are well connected to schools, businesses and transport. We believe living isn't just measured in the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, or the size of your backyard, but in bike rides, barbecues and bedtime stories. That belief drives everything we plan, design and build. It takes hard work to make living this easy, but we love doing it.

We're so proud to have created this beautiful, contemporary new playground for the Waiata Shores community. “Fostering a sense of community is a core part of our Fletcher Living purpose. Having a space where families can gather, relax and share some carefree moments encourages this. By collaborating with local iwi, Auckland Council, and the local board, we have created a destination playground with a cultural narrative to provide a unique play experience for families,” says Steve Evans, chief executive of Fletcher Building’s residential and development division. • At Fletcher Living it is so important to us that we build neighbourhoods with plenty of amenity. This weekend we welcomed our residents to the beautiful new playground & pump track at Waiata Shores, Conifer Grove, Auckland.    Te Waituarua Reserve Playground has been brought to life thanks to a collaboration between Fletcher Living and local iwi, represented by Kathleen Wilson of Te Aakitai Waiohua, and Clynt White, Urban Designer from Waahi Wairua.   “Fostering a sense of community is a core part of our Fletcher Living purpose. Having a space where families can gather, relax and share some carefree moments encourages this. By collaborating with local iwi, Auckland Council, and the Local Board, we have created a destination playground with a cultural narrative to provide a unique play experience for families,” says Steve Evans, Chief Executive of Fletcher Building's Residential and Development Division.   This playground was designed with elements of traditional Māori play, alongside puuraakau of the local area have been the inspiration for the design of a beautiful contemporary new playground Fletcher Living is gifting to the community of Waiata Shores. The $2 million playground has been fully funded by Fletcher Living and is being gifted to the Council for the enjoyment of everyone.    The playground also features an impressive 120m BMX pump track, designed and built by mountain bike cycling champion, Byron Scott and his pro-BMX team at Trailpro Ltd. "We loved designing this track. Pump tracks are a fantastic way to encourage people to get active on their bikes, scooters, skateboards, or even roller skates. We worked hard to make sure this pump track was inclusive for everyone, from absolute beginners and toddlers to professional BMX riders. It has a directional flow to ensure that users can participate safely without the risk of collisions," says Byron Scott, Managing Director of Trailpro Ltd.

Yesterday we welcomed The Hon Chris Penk MP, Minister for Building and Construction to officially open our completed LowCO homes alongside Steven Evans, Chief Executive and project lead and Head of Sustainability Nicola Tagiston.   It was an auspicious coincidence that yesterday was also Earth Day, as at its heart, LowCO is an example of what can be achieved to improve environmental outcomes when we choose to think differently and redefine what is possible.   In 2021, a team from Massey University and BRANZ calculated the available carbon budget for the residential construction sector, for New Zealand to achieve its global climate targets – in short no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius warming by 2050. This work gave Fletcher Living backed by Fletcher Building both a target and a challenge – could we design and build a 3-bedroom home that would fit within this radically low carbon footprint? Through mindful choices informed by data-driven modelling, we achieved that target. These homes stand as exemplars of high-performance, showcasing radical water efficiency and pioneering landscape design.   Our project accomplishments include - Seven fold reduction on carbon emissions over the homes lifespan - 20-21C indoor temperature all year around - 80% potable water savings (stand alone) - 90% diversion from landfill during construction - Low carbon, diverse landscaping requiring minimal water use - Independently verified Homestar 10 (v5)   We believe a low-carbon future is within reach for all Kiwi homes, but we have to build differently and collaborate if we want to achieve this. Our success is the culmination of multi-disciplinary consultants including Architype, Sustainable Engineering Ltd. Beca, Revolve Energy, and cross-organisational businesses coming together including Watercare Services Limited, united by expertise and driven by a shared purpose.   We now eagerly anticipate the next phase of LowCO’s journey - the occupation of the homes and collection of three years' worth of water and electricity data to prove its performance.   We are proud to have led the way and we are looking forward to supporting industry rise to the challenge. To help this, we will be making the LowCO architectural plans and product lists freely available on the Fletcher Living website next Monday 29th April.
