Don’t miss this chance to honour the incredible individuals and organisations contributing to this special place and its people. Collaborating with the next generation! We've partnered with a class of Year 10 students at Wakatipu High School in a bid to design a better luggage trolley suited to our destination and the unique needs of our customers. Students will be guided through the project over Term 3 as part of a design and visual communication course. Genevieve Small, Head of Learning Area Technology, welcomed the collaboration. "It's a wonderful opportunity to present students with an authentic design challenge." Todd Grace, Acting Chief Executive says "We're excited to see what clever ideas emerge from this competition and to celebrate the talent within our community." Students from across the region can enter to share their ideas. Find our more at: https://lnkd.in/gJuA2XWY #Innovation #DesignThinking #QueenstownAirport

Here's to a perfect pairing! Today, we're excited to welcome KiwiHarvest as the newest member of Queenstown Airport's partnership programme. We've committed to providing $25,000 a year for three years to help build the resilience of KiwiHarvest in the Southern Lakes region. The charity tackles two big problems with one clever solution: rescuing food before it goes to waste and redistributing it to those in need. We're big fans of the work they do and proud to have a tangible way to show our support. #ZQNPartner #CommunityFirst #QueenstownAirport #KiwiHarvest #FeedMoreWasteLess Read more about the partnership here: https://bit.ly/3Wwe1aS

Qantas has this week published a change to its schedule on flights operating between Queenstown and Sydney, with the current late evening service now departing in the early morning. The change will provide more convenient connectivity for Queenstown customers forward travelling to other destinations on the Qantas network enabling same-day transit on a range of international routes via Sydney. Queenstown Airport Acting Chief Executive Todd Grace says “We are pleased to support Qantas’ schedule change on its Queenstown to Sydney service. The majority of trans-Tasman flights depart Queenstown in the afternoons, this additional flight offers an evening arrival and an early morning departure providing greater flexibility for locals and visitors alike. Preparations at Queenstown Airport have been under way for some months, and we’ve appreciated the collaborative approach from our colleagues at New Zealand Customs and the Ministry of Primary Industries to accommodate this change.” “There has been an increase in trans-Tasman passenger numbers this year, compared to last, so we’re confident this new service will be a welcome addition to the schedule.” https://lnkd.in/gBCC3BGD

Today we launched a ground-breaking partnership with our colleagues from the Southern Airports Alliance (Dunedin Airport and Invercargill Airport Limited) and the eight southern Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) under the banner of Southern Way. Supported by Air New Zealand, the initiative encourages people to use the airline's multistop booking tool to fly into one of the three airports, rent a vehicle to explore the region, then fly out of another. “We’re excited by the opportunities this opens up, and we believe there are real benefits for everyone in spreading visitors widely around the region, rather than having them concentrated in a few hotspots,” Queenstown Airport Acting Chief Executive Todd Grace says. “This is a meaningful way of supporting the regenerative tourism aspirations of our community and the lower South alongside Dunedin and Invercargill airports.” Learn more about the campaign partnership here: https://lnkd.in/gm9TVqjN #RegenerativeTourism #Collaboration #OneTriptoSeeitAll

Queenstown Airport has just installed six common-use charging stations for electric ground service equipment. These eco-friendly additions will enable us to reduce our carbon footprint and support the airlines that operate here to transition away from diesel equipment. Here's to more sustainable travel and a greener future!

We're looking forward to hosting David Kennedy at the Elevate Series event alongside the Queenstown Business Chamber of Commerce next week. I’ve been blessed to have flown in and out of Queenstown Airport hundreds of times, but in this photo, I wasn’t going anywhere except the tarmac. I call it “Kennedy meets Clinton”. It makes for a great brag shot, particularly with Air Force One in the background, but the reality was a very brief encounter that lasted about 8 seconds. I think I said something like: “Welcome to Queenstown Mr. President”, and he said… “Hello”. Notwithstanding the tragic (for me) brevity of the encounter, it was probably my most memorable Airport experience. Which is one of the reasons I’m delighted to be a guest speaker next week at the “Elevate” Series of talks created by the Queenstown Business Chamber of Commerce and Queenstown Airport (ZQN) on the topic of “Experience”. I’m not sure a topic can get any broader, but I can’t think of a more appropriate place than Queenstown to explore the concept. I’m touting that through my career journey of events, sponsorship and tourism, I discovered the secret sauce to delivering transformational experiences, but you’ll have to turn up to see if that’s true. And if it’s not, the good news is we’ll all be sitting in a bar that serves Margaritas… Thursday 25 July – 3.30pm to 5.00pm – Miss Rita’s Cantina – 35 Brecon St Tickets here: https://lnkd.in/g2gxf2Cq

This morning we have announced a major investment in airfield safety at Queenstown Airport. In a first for Australasia, engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) beds will be installed at each end of the main runway. These are designed to safely bring an aircraft to a controlled stop with minimal damage, should one overshoot the runway. Construction will begin in spring. Our decision to use this innovative technology is evidence of our proactive approach to risk management. Runway overruns are rare, but the consequences can be catastrophic, so we want to do everything possible to mitigate that risk at ZQN. This is the first project rising from the Master Plan we completed last year, which will guide significant investment in infrastructure this decade. We are prioritising improvements to safety, operational efficiency, resilience, customer experience, and sustainability, while ensuring we protect what makes Queenstown Airport unique.
