🇪🇺 On Tuesday Helle Aagaard represented ReAct, we were pleased to provide our perspectives on what the newly established committee on health (SANT) in the European parliament should prioritize over the coming 4 years. 💊🦠We emphasized the importance of keeping #AntibioticResistance high on the political agenda, increasing European action, and to not forget the global outlook in their work to ensure more equitable access to medicines and healthcare. 🏥 🙏🏾Thank you Member of the European Parliament Tilly Metz for inviting ReAct, and for launching bold yet concrete ideas in your whitepaper for what the Committee should achieve.

And that’s a wrap! The “New Conceptions of AMR” conference spotlighted four social science approaches to tackling the problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR): • Collective action problems: AMR is a social challenge created by actors with competing interests and insufficient incentives to cooperate. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gMWdvJJh • Urban political ecology: urbanization, environmental degradation, global health threats, and climate change as interconnected problems for AMR. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gHfBs5vu • AMR as infrastructure: antimicrobials are part of invisible infrastructure, routinely used as integral parts of modern food systems, land-use practices, clinical medicine, and public health. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g6rV9HXc • Socio-ecological dynamics: AMR requires robust institutions to manage the dynamic co-evolution of human societies and invisible microbial ecologies. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gCwHJTAc As Quadripartite agencies and countries begin to develop a new Global Action Plan (GAP) on AMR by 2026, this meeting brought together leading social scientists to explore ways these New Conceptions can present opportunities for advancing policy change. Thank you to all attendees for the valuable conversations. We also want to thank the Wellcome Trust for providing a beautiful venue for deep thinking and collaboration. "If we were able to contain antimicrobial resistance in a country like India, we would have taken care 1/5 of the world’s problem." Kamini Walia Recently, GARDP and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) (ICMR) hosted an event on strengthening appropriate antibiotic access in India. The event brought together eminent stakeholders working in the AMR space in India, including clinicians, regulators & policy makers, global funders, biotech innovators, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. “India has all the ingredients for a vibrant AMR landscape.
