🌍 SSE Airtricity is proud to have supported Business in the Community Ireland's All-Ireland Climate Action Pilot Programme. Today, BITCI shared the results of this inspiring pilot project, which connected 22 SMEs with partners - SSE Airtricity, Bank of Ireland and Musgrave Group - to help reduce carbon emissions across supply chains. 🌍 Through workshops, one-on-one mentoring and hands-on training, the participating SMEs gained the skills to build tailored climate action plans. "SSE Airtricity was delighted to be involved in this All-Ireland Climate Action pilot programme, allowing us to support our key suppliers on their net zero journey," commented Russell Keating, Director of Sales at SSE Airtricity. "The energy industry has a significant role to play in educating and informing people about decarbonisation, but we also have a wider responsibility to ensure everyone is brought on the journey to net zero.” Models for effective supplier engagement will be a key focus at COP29 discussions in Azerbaijan this week, highlighting the need to build capacity across supply chains, particularly in SMEs so Scope 3 emissions can be addressed. Previously, BITCI's Low-Carbon Pledge Report found that for at least half of its signatories, over 80% of their carbon emissions come from Scope 3 sources. Many of these businesses face challenges in accurately gathering and reporting Scope 3 emissions, especially those with complex value chains that include SMEs. It's significant, then, that one of the key outcomes of this 2024 pilot programme was that SME participants’ knowledge of climate responsibility jumped from 72% to 93%, and over half are now developing climate action plans. The programme also reinforced the finding that when companies and suppliers work together, they’re 6.6 times more likely to align with Net Zero goals—proving that collaboration is key for meaningful climate action.

Access up to €120,000 for energy upgrades to your business with the new €50m support scheme: Highlight opportunities and set priorities with an energy audit. ✔️ A new €50m Business Energy Upgrade Scheme has been launched to help small and medium-sized businesses improve sustainability and reduce costs ✔️The scheme offers support up to €120,000 ✔️ Open to all businesses, the scheme is designed in particular for SMEs and businesses renting premises ✔️The measures covered include solar thermal and solar pv, wall and roof fabric, heating and cooling upgrades (including heat pumps), pumps (for fluid handling), air-handling units, building management system optimisation and technical/design assistance as well as case-by-case tailored support ✔️An application can be made quickly by an SME via the SEAI website, and the SEAI says that a decision and grant offer can be generated within minutes “For companies keen to reduce their operational spend and carbon footprint with Business Energy Upgrade Scheme funding, SSE Airtricity’s team of energy engineers can help you identify opportunities and prioritise projects through our energy audit service," commented Oisin Burke,  Business Energy Solutions, Energy Efficiency Manager at SSE Airtricity. “An energy audit is the ideal place to start - whether you’re taking the first steps to reduce energy consumption, bills and carbon emissions – or you want to ramp things up to the next level. And the good news is that the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland offers a €2,000 Energy Audit Voucher for eligible SMEs with an annual energy spend of over €10,000 – when they use one of SEAI’s registered auditors, including SSE Airtricity." “An SSE Airtricity Energy Audit will provide you with an energy efficiency plan to highlight energy-saving and renewable energy opportunities – and provide a clear roadmap for prioritisation, with estimated costs and returns,” he added. “We can also highlight other potentially suitable energy grants for your business, including the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant for Solar PV, the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat and the Excellence in Energy Efficient Design (EXEED) grant.” #energyefficiency #businessgrants #energygrants #businessenergy #businesssustainability #costsavings
