Malawi is facing a complex interplay of challenges which threaten food and nutrition security. Climate change, economic shocks, and global crises have exacerbated existing vulnerabilities. To address these issues, the Global Panel with the National Planning Commission of Malawi convened a high-level stakeholders' consultation in Lilongwe as part of its Irish Aid funded project on food system resilience for improved nutrition. The event brought together government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners to discuss strategies for making sustainable, healthy diets available to all. Several themes were identified as areas for action: 👉 The urgent need for improved nutrition and dietary diversity. 👉 The critical role of climate adaptation and mitigation. 👉 The importance of effective coordination and collaboration. 👉 The potential of the private sector in driving food system transformation. Broad agreement was reached on the imperative for a centralised coordination mechanism to oversee food systems transformation. This is a crucial step towards reaching multiple health, education, environmental and other goals in Malawi. We look forward to sharing further updates on this important initiative. 🌍𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 & 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮'𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝘁 The absence of robust #earlywarningsystems in India's agricultural heartlands, particularly the potato belt, is exposing farmers to the devastating impacts of #climatechange. In the past months, Cyclones like Michaung and Remal have led to severe crop losses, indebtedness, and tragically, #farmer suicides. 👨🏽🌾 👩🏽💻 Recent discussions at the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) in India spotlighted the urgent need for #digitalsolutions and equitable access to technology for climate resiliency. With successful implementation, these systems can save lives, safeguard livelihoods, and ensure our #foodsystems remain resilient. To truly address these challenges, stakeholders must work together to bridge gaps in digitalisation, technology access, and funding. Read more on this blog, written by Mousumi K.
