🤝 Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and plastics are strongly interconnected. 💡 This (toxic) relationship is discussed in a new scientific commentary, co-authored by scientists from multiple universities and research institutes including the Food Packaging Forum. Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ UPFs heavily rely on plastics for production and packaging. Major UPF producers are also major contributors to plastic pollution. 2️⃣ Consumption of UPFs is associated with increased levels of known hazardous plastic food contact chemicals 3️⃣ Better connecting these two fields of research and applying a more holistic approach is key in addressing these issues effectively ➡️ Read the commentary: https://lnkd.in/dU3-3rtm ➡️ Or our summary article: https://lnkd.in/dMHjcyPb

🔊 Empowering Women and Girls for Global Food Security! At the 52nd Plenary of the Committee on World Food Security, we are hosting a Forum on the Uptake of the Voluntary Guidelines on Gender Equality. These guidelines, endorsed in 2023, are the first globally negotiated agreement to address gender disparities and all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls in the context of food security and nutrition. Despite progress in food production, gender inequalities continue to fuel hunger and poverty, disproportionately affecting women and girls. Empowering them is key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. When women thrive, food security improves, economies grow, and communities are strengthened. The guidelines promote gender-responsive policies and highlight the need for coherence across sectors to tackle the root causes of inequality. Clear strategies and coordination among all stakeholders are needed to implement these guidelines at national and local levels. For more details, visit the CFS52 webpage 🔗⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eXEtauSB
