About us

BDP Pattern is the sports and entertainment division of BDP, a global architecture and engineering practice with a network of studios across the UK, EMEA, Asia, North America and Latin America. Pattern was founded by Dipesh Patel in 2009 and became part of the BDP group in 2021. Our ethos is to create designs that achieve a balance between the man-made environment and the natural world. We are interested in projects that enhance the user experience by addressing well-being and visual harmony whilst optimising parametric design to create complex structures that can respond to local context and elements. Data analysis and computation enable us to invent stadia that can mitigate hot climates or provide wind assisted high performing environments for athletes. Whereas our creative design talents ensure we deliver memorable places where people come together to share a sporting experience.

At BDP Pattern, we are proud to have been finalists for the FIFA World Cup renovation of Gran Canaria Stadium, a project to expand and modernise the home of UD Las Palmas. It has been a privilege to collaborate with NEXO ARQUITECTURA ESPAÑA, Junquera Arquitectos, SOCOTEC, Arquitectura Agronomia and Threevisual Visual Communication to develop an iconic vision for the stadium’s transformation. Our proposal reimagines the stadium with a football-first bowl, designed to enhance the matchday atmosphere, alongside expanded, modern facilities that serve both the club and the wider community. The design is unified by a façade inspired by the traditional craft of palm leaf weaving, celebrating the local heritage. We are incredibly proud of the work our team has produced and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the future of Gran Canaria. #GranCanariaStadium #FIFAWorldCup #StadiumDesign #BDPPattern #Architecture #Innovation

  • “Impressive, instantly-jaw dropping and everything you want as a fan.” Some of the outstanding initial reviews of the new Everton FC stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, which hosted its first test match yesterday, are hitting the media. As Jon-Scott Kohli, Architect Director at BDP Pattern, explains: "Attending the first-ever match at Everton’s new stadium was an incredible milestone, both professionally and personally. Seeing it come alive for the first time was overwhelming. After years as a digital model and then a construction site, the stadium has finally become what it was designed to be – a home for the Everton family. Watching supporters gather in the plazas and concourses, experiencing the details we carefully developed, and seeing the building in action was a proud and exhilarating moment. From the warm glow of the handmade bricks to the steep rake of the South Stand, every element has been crafted to create an inclusive, intimate, and world-class footballing experience. This project is a testament to the vision of the Club and the dedication of hundreds of professionals and builders who have brought it to life. I have no doubt that the stadium will soon be recognised as one of the great stadiums in world football.” The final score on the night was Everton U18s 1-2 Wigan U18s.   This project has been a collaboration of expert teams working together across various stages of its design and delivery. As it comes into full use next season, the stadium, designed by MEIS Architects and BDP Pattern, will attract more than 1.4 million visitors annually, drawing fans and tourists alike to this scenic riverside location. Fans will enjoy breath taking views of the River Mersey, the Wirral, and the Irish Sea from the elevated terraces. This is a new world-class home for Everton and for us it has been a project that goes far beyond football, leaving a lasting legacy for the club and the city of Liverpool. On Tuesday BDP Pattern had the privilege of being invited on a tour around Tynecastle Park. It was great to learn all about the history of Hearts FC and see how the stadium evolved alongside the club's 150 year development. Initiatives such as the Maroon Mile project demonstrate the importance in preserving the history and memories of fans, keeping the club well integrated within the local community. Massive thank you to Rob Stack, Derek, Karen, Lianne, Ann and the rest of the team at Hearts FC for putting on a great event. Heart of Midlothian FC BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd)
