It was great to participate in the ESG’s role in supporting sustainable development in the Global South roundtable, last week. As the sole main contractor representing the construction industry, we are proud to contribute to important discussions with ministers, parliamentarians, and industry experts to advance #ESG initiatives. Heidi Salmons DipM MCIM Neave Thompson Arun Thaneja
🌍 The Group hosted a roundtable today, focusing on ESG’s role in supporting sustainable development in the Global South We were delighted to welcome a fantastic panel of speakers to lead the discussion: • Michael Wilkins, Executive Director and Professor of Practice at the Centre for Climate Finance and Investment at Imperial College London’s Business School, who brought over 30 years of expertise in sustainable finance, carbon markets, and risk management. • Millie May, Climate Policy Advocate and COP29 Delegate, who shared powerful messages on youth leadership, intergenerational equity, and the importance of education in driving the green skills transition. • Madeline R. Young-Touré, an award-winning ESG specialist and PhD researcher at the University of Exeter, who highlighted the need for greater Global South representation in ESG discussions and advocated for more equitable and inclusive metrics for sustainable development. We were also pleased to host Baroness Northover who raised important concerns over shifting political climates and the influence of right-wing ideologies on youth. Participants explored critical challenges and opportunities in mobilising private investment, addressing barriers to climate finance, and incentivising equitable, impactful projects. The discussion built on the COP29 commitment to triple climate finance for developing countries to $300 billion annually by 2035. It was great to see participants building on one another’s perspectives and insights, creating a productive and collaborative dialogue. A heartfelt thank you to our speakers and participants for their invaluable insights and contributions. We look forward to sharing the key takeaways soon.
