Another great read in the SW CI CLANN publication, with many interesting project updates and articles and much more. CWA feature on page 12, highlighting their involvement in the Improving Urban Waters (IUW) programme. Click below to access issue 11.
Nature is always a partner in any project. So, it makes sense to work with it, not against it. At Scottish Water we have been thinking a lot about nature-based solutions (NBS). One of the issues is everyone seems to have a different definition. In our latest edition of the CLANN magazine you can read how we’re trying to solve that problem for ourselves and our partners. And there are also some great NBS examples that might plant the odd seed of inspiration for your team too! There's also plenty of great stuff to read about in relation to our investment programme across Scotland including our drive to Beyond Zero Harm. Enjoy the read. Excellent event feedback from our Head of Technical, David Lowden representing CWA at the prestigious WWT conference. Great insight from all attendees & speakers including SW’s Karen Dee - let’s continue to collaborate and ensure further success and drive sustainable solutions for the future.
Exciting Times at WWT Utility Week! Just got back from an incredible experience at the WWT Utility Week (28th and 29th January 2024) and I couldn't be more thrilled to share some highlights! Utility Week has established strong relationships with industry leaders, making these conferences more beneficial by focusing on specific topics. It's an excellent platform to convey the services we can provide to the industry. The presentations were top-notch! From impressive software platforms to Thames Water's Thames Tideway project, and Scottish Water's wealth of case studies on SuDs schemes, there was so much to learn and share. The innovation from universities like Sheffield, Newcastle, and Cranfield was also incredibly inspiring. The exhibition was a great opportunity to tease out some exciting opportunities with the supply chain who showed great interest in collaborating on various projects. It's clear that we have a great brand to present, but there's still work to be done to make our presence known in the waste sector. A big shoutout to everyone who made this event a success! Let's continue to build on these connections and drive sustainable solutions for the future. #UtilityWeek #WaterIndustry #Innovation #Sustainability #Networking #FutureReady

It was a pleasure to visit the Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) team in Glasgow last week and see first-hand the outstanding work they’re delivering to enhance Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure. Our discussions reinforced the critical importance of our partnership in driving positive change. Collaboration lies at the heart of CWA’s success. By co-locating 170 professionals from AECOM, Morrison Water Services and Scottish Water and allowing early input from construction teams, we’ve created a truly integrated approach. Scottish Water remains a key strategic partner, and the Caledonia Water Alliance team’s dedication to innovation and excellence is central to our shared success. Thank you to the team for your warm welcome and for showcasing the incredible impact of your work. Major investment to alleviate sewer flooding at East Shore in Pittenweem. CWA has completed the first stage of a multi-million-pound investment project to help reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Pittenweem. The project involves the upgrading of new and improved wastewater infrastructure, including a new long sea outfall, Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) chambers and upgraded pipework. Work started in the East Shore area in January 2024. The existing CSO has now been upgraded with a new powered screen, the purpose of which is to reduce the risk of wrongly flushed items such as wet wipes from ending up in the environment during times of heavy rain. A new outfall has also been installed within East Harbour which will take existing overflow from the inner harbour further out to sea. These works were completed ahead of the 2024 Pittenweem Arts Festival. In early December, our teams completed the work by carrying out sewer lining works in East Shore and Mid Shore. Colin Freeland, CWA Project Manager said: “We are pleased to complete the East Shore stage of this important investment for Pittenweem. We have listened to the community and programmed our works in around their requirements. We have used specialist contractors and divers to complete this phase of works. We would like to thank everyone involved and look forward to working with the community for the next phase.” CWA are delivering this project on behalf of Scottish Water. #floodalleviation #combinedseweroverflow Morrison Water Services | AECOM - Water
